System Specs

Which cpu upgrade would you recommend?

I'm running a core2duo for a while now but I feel my system is coming short..
My windows experience index cpu subscore is 5.8, all other subscores in my scores a 5.9 (Vista x64).
It's almost time for a quadcore..
Which Quadcore you would recommend me?
Requirements:
  • It must be a 45nm (socket 775) cpu
  • Should be a good overclocker
  • Not too expensive

Pls look at my system specs.

Thanks!

The Q9550 is the best bang for the buck short of i7. you should be able to hit 4Ghz on H20.

What about a Core 2 Quad Q8200?
Or does my e7200 @ 3.8 outperform this processor?

If your a gamer then pick up a used E8400 for a minimal increase in performance and sell your current CPU to cover part of the upgrade price.

You should get to 4GHz easily and that will help you out a little.

But, in all honesty it wont be much of an upgrade...the only thing that is a true "upgrade" is a Q9550 as Buck said already.
The issue with that is the price....and if your just a gamer, it wont make any difference to your frames anyway.

So, saying that.....stick with what you have and wait until you can go the i7 route.

with quads, do not get anything lower than a Q9550. the reduce cache cripples their performance on the lower models, and the Q9450 has too low a multiplier to OC well.

my xeon may as well be a good clocking E8500, i really suggest going that route - they're faster per clock than what you have (due to the extra cache), run cool, and OC well

btw, the vista scores are useless. it caps you for not having a quad core or a tri core, but makes no real claims for speed.

EG, it gives me a low HDD rating because i only have a 40GB partition for my OS - it caps my score due to the OS partition being small (and does the same for ram amounts, numbers of cores etc)

your CPU could be a 5.9 in performance, but if its a single core they'll cap you at something like 3.9

Yep, I agree, go wtih Q9550 or Q8500 if you cannot afford the other one.

Honestly, I wouldn't change anything with the exception of running a RAID 0 array. That would probably provide you with the most noticeable upgrade at keyboard level.
