Xigmatek Intros Balder SD1283 CPU Cooler
Cooling specialist Xigmatek announced its latest CPU cooler, the Balder SD1283. The Balder maintains a design similar to most other tower coolers. The design consists of a base from which three heat pipes of 8 mm diameter making direct contact with the CPU, convey heat to a dense array of aluminum alloy fins. The CPU base has a mirror finish to ensure better surface contact.
The main unit measures 120(W) x 50(D) x 159(H) mm, and weighs 700 g with fan. The 120 mm fan spins at speeds between 1000 ~ 2200 rpm, with a maximum noise output of 28 dBA. The Xigmatek Balder supports all current sockets, including LGA-1366, LGA-1156, LGA-775, and AM3/AM2+/AM2. The package includes a bolt-thru kit for the LGA sockets, and enough rubber rivets to let you attach two fans. It is priced at 32.90 EUR. ![]() Source: TechConnect Magazine |

The Xigmatech coolers are really good performers for the price, but I really wish they would get rid of those retarded rubber fan mounts. The bend the fins all to shit when you put them on...

Putting them on wasn't to hard, how ever swapping the fan for another is a pain in the arse.
They should try and make something like the fans on artic freezer coolers, the fan its self having its own special suspension.

I thought it was a "more bald" cooler.

Yeah rubber mounts on the fins can be a pain to install, but not as bad as putting the nipples through the fan blade mounts. I wish they went Thermalright, Tuniq or AC fan mounting.

Firstly, I giggled at " not as bad as putting the nipples through the fan blade mounts*
and secondly I agree, I had to use a screw driver to push those nipples through.

I just bought an S1283 and its a real nice cooler, especially for the price.
Changed the fan for a higher CFM one and it works a treat on my xeon 3220. Can only assume this one does even better. I expect similar results with just one fan, perhaps 1 c or so difference, but with two fans much better temperatures under load.

It's easy, You stick the nipple in the hole and pull it through. No tools required. Attatching the other end of the rubber mounts to the heatsink can be a pain, you just need to make sure they line up correctly.

For me it just felt like the nipples were going to tear as I pulled them, felt much safer pushing them through.

They should've sleeved the fan cable on this rev... and they better have the same exact fan for sale separate or I'm going to choke them.
