RT shows CPU multiplier up to 60
Hi,
I have i7 920 on BCLK 160. I ran RealTemp 3.0 and the Load Tester on all 8 cores. I captured the screen with multiplier showing 40 but it went up to 60. It just jumps all over the place. CPU-Z shows steady 3.2GHz. My desktop CPU meter shows low load and the temps stay low. What is the problem with multiplier? Thank you |

That's usually a sign that some other monitoring program on your computer is not being as friendly with the system timers as RealTemp 3.00 tried to be.
RealTemp 3.00 is about 8 months old now and burebista's suggestion to try the latest beta is correct. He even posted the correct link to my FileDen site. ![]() First, you should try disabling other monitoring programs on your computer one by one to see if the RealTemp 3.00 multiplier settles down. That would help me out. The timers that RealTemp uses to accurately calculate your multiplier are not a protected resource like they should be so it's possible for other software to alter them which will screw up RealTemp. The latest beta won't show multipliers like 40 or 60 but it still might not be accurate if some other monitoring program you're running is acting like a bully. Edit: If you run the Load Tester program, it can only fully load one thread of a hyper threaded Core i7. You would need to run 8 instances of Load Tester to load each thread of your CPU. Each individual Load Tester program will contribute about 12.5% to your total load. There have been some recent problems with Nvidia drivers that screw up software that tries to read your GPU temperatures. Try reading a handful of these posts to find a solution: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...79044&page=150 You might also need to go into your Control Panel -> Power Options and adjust your Minimum processor state setting as well as C1E to get a steady multiplier at idle. You have a combination of problems at the moment so adjust these things and see if you can get it steady. Last edited by unclewebb; Oct 21, 2009 at 08:03 PM. |

Yes, you were right. CPUID Hadware Monitor was running in the background. As soon as I shot it down the multiplier came to normal.
Thanks again. ![]() Thank you burebista for the link to the beta RT
