ok so im like i whant 2300mhz with a lower multi so i have more fsb head room to oc without using a ram divider here is were the fun comes ok so my default it 12.5 good enough i figure i can drop it to 11.5 and *200 and that will give me what i want and i wont need a divider so i go into bios and yaya i can change it!!!! however when i save is when the problem accurs it wont boot back up so i clear the CMOS and try again this time leaving the divider and fsb the same so now it should be 200mhz slower @ ~2130 no go wont boot..............................so im like fine ill raise the multi...........that was funny so i did i changed it to 13 and rebooted and it worked!!!! or at least so i thought....i boot into windows and i start cpu-z..........the multi is still 12.5 and now im down clocked cause i lowered the fsb so i restart and go into bios and the multi is still 13 just no change? i dont understand in my last comp the multi option was locked because the processor didnt support it but the option is unlocked here but it wont work down and kinda works up? any help?


also a few of you may have seen my thread about my monitor whisteling well its around my processor area actually.............i heard it when my case was open however i dont know why it would be doing it now it hasent the whistle has only started to appear in the last couple months what do you think cpu reseat?

Your CPU is probably locked. Only bartons pre 0339 were unlocked, unless it's a mobile.

It's the numbers in the stepping, it tells you that it was made week 39 2003. They started locking processors after that.
