So in theory, you don't need to run LINPACK? You won't really ever stress your CPU just like that test does?

System Specs

Ok I’ve just updated my ATI drivers to 9.10 and BIOS to the latest F6 version.

I tried running the OCCT standard CPU test. My PC restarted after 5mins (just like the mysterious reboots I’m having).
AMD X3 720 @ 18x200(3.6Ghz), 1.502v
Individual cores max temp: 41-42c
Overall CPU temp: ~47c

So I decided to go back to the standard CPU clock and default voltage.
AMD X3 720 non-oced, default voltage
Individual cores max temp: 32c max
Overall CPU temp: 39-40c

It’s weird because:
a) I have been running my 3.6Ghz overclock for over 3 months no problem.
b) My overclocked temperatures aren’t that high even.

I really like my overclock and it helps a lot when compressing video files. I don’t want to go back to default CPU settings, I’ll try out giving it more voltage.

I really hope this is the reason for my reboots, although I’m quite sure my system also rebooted on 5-10% CPU usage situations while watching movies or just browsing.

Simply, no, you dont NEED to run it. Normal mode durring testing is sufficient especially at stock clocks. there is more to it than CPU volts and clocks. Keep in mind the ram, voltage and timings, as well as additional voltage to mobo components.

Is the test failing now???

Ok seems like adding a little bit of voltage to the CPU helped (see my system specs).

Ran stable OCCT for 15mins (while other non-stable voltages crashed within first 2-5 minutes). Temps:

OCCT per core: 42-43c
EVEREST overall CPU temp: 48-49c

Let's just hope this solves my random crashes

Oh boy, as stupid as it may sound it was my overclocked CPU that was causing the problem.
I've upped the vcore by a little bit and it's stable as ever now.

It's weird anyway, was all fine for 3 months but now suddenly it began requiring more juice.. heh.
