A Thread dedicated to issues with my PC

Sad but much needed. I am making a thread because I need advise from you guys.

Here is a list of issues I've had with my i7 rig lately.

1- Video card. Screen would go black and fan would spin up forcing me to reboot.
2- Once I replaced video card with an X300 I have, it stops issue #1 above, but now I have lost LAN and Audio, forcing me to restart to get it back only to loose it again.
3-with the x300 installed, I have now removed my sound card ( in the specs to the left) and all related creative apps/software/drivers. Seems like this is the longest i've had LAN. Of course no audio now, but the LAN connection is fine so far.

So what would you guys advise me to do.

What I have in mind is monitor a bit more, if all fine, try the 9800GX2 again and see if the sound card was causing the card to act up. If the 9800GX2 still acts up then the card is bad. Then it'll be a matter of getting my sound card to work with the rest of the components.

Ruling out

RAM - 1 1/2 pass of MEMTEST - PASSED
CPU - Passed 100 passes of Intel Burn Test
PSU - All Voltages Tested within specs with multimeter
GPU (GX2) - Ran Furmark for about 7 minutes stable. Quit because of temps (100/103ºc)

You really want to do a "rule out" here. I'd run some tests on the card to rule it out. Do a couple of loops of 3dmark vantage/06, and maybe the unigine "heaven" demo to really test it. If the card passes these tests, then it's not the card. Run LinX for a 25x cycle. If it passes, rule out the cpu. Run memtest on your ram for 30 minutes. If it passes, rule it out. After all this, if you still have random issues, I'd have to say it's the board. Just be calm and methodical. Through this methodical testing, I've always found the culprit.

well readong your other thread id say its the board. honestly prob 1 could have been caused by PCI-E slot power cutting out or getting too low tripping the card. and that and with your now present lan and audio glitches id bank on IO operations not working correctly..which probably leads to the NB and or the mobo's power regulators and other power cicuitry.

Sounds like a conflict between your VGA and Sound Card drivers. Are you loading an aftermarket app for that sound card or is it the one that Win7 assigns by default?

It could be, but it's worth ruling out everything else. Asumption is the mother of all f'ups.

with the 9800GX2 I was not able to do that because the screen goes blank after a minute or two. Even happened running memtest. So I can't come to a conclusion with it installed. I will monitor it now, LAN is still working now with out creative stuff installed. If its fine by later. I will do this, linx/memtest etc. If all is fine then I will try the GX2 without audio drivers and see how that goes.

I'm curious why you're using the sound card. I'm not sure which EVGA X58 you've got but I'd bet it looks something like this...

Why can't you use the motherboard audio? At least while you figure this out.

Whenever I have a problem like this I start with all stock settings and run at least 2 complete runs of memtest86+ v4.00. I use the bootable iso version.

Can you put your 9800GX2 in another system? Maybe the PSU has degraded where it can't handle the 9800GX2.

I wanted to see if I had an issue with no sound at all and then with on board. For now creative seems to be the issue, I will enable on board and install its latest drivers soon. Just monitoring and running some tests for now as Paul suggested.

Then it'll be a matter of getting my sound card to work with the rest of the components.
that sounds shockingly after my experiences... especially the back screen and the audio part... i have 2 soundcards, that, after a while built in, say to me: "im not detectable anymore (soundblaster Live),or i make "RSHHSHSH" (ultron)

i thought about wcg producing system errors... it cant be, that many people share RANDOM issues?
