I need a new mouse

My Steelseries Ikari has been acting really flaky recently and I think that it's on it's way out. It suck since I do love this mouse but it's maybe a year old. You figure a $90 mouse, not that I paid that much for it, should last longer. I was using a Sidewinder before that but after 6-8 months the right button started to stick.

Anyways I can't decide on a replacement mouse. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a mouse since these "quality gaming grade mice" don't seem to last. I'm thinking about a Logitech G( (if I can find one at a decent price) or a Deathadder. Any other suggestions would be more than welcome. I should add that I tend to claw my mouse.

What about a nice FingerMouse ?

I went from a G9 to a Deathadder, and it suits me much better. If you're near a Best Buy, they usually have both a Deathadder and a G5 at least on the floor to "try."

I vote for the G9.

I thought the on-the-fly dpi adjustment was just a gimmick but now I will never go back to a mouse without one. The buttons are still as responsive as the day I got it after 100+ hours of L4D gaming.

I wouldn't pay retail for one but if you can get one on sale it is a great gaming mouse.

EDIT: You also can't beat the Logitech warranty if durability is a concern

optical wheels have a higher MTBF but are prone to performance issues once exposed to dirt or other materials and to throughly clean it you need to disassemble it. if your a claw grip you are probably shifting your weight to your palm instead of your fingers, a lot of low sensitivity gamers that claw grip like light weight mice because it makes it easier to swipe long distances. the Avago ADNS-3688 is in my opinion the second best sensor on the market in speed, tracking and reliability otherwise it would go to the Philips Twin-Eye Series aka Razer 3.5G Infared Laser however that is not reliable. I wouldn't cry if I got either the DeathAdder or Diamondback 3G but the Diamondback 3G has the edge.

if you want the very best I would suggest the SteelSeries Xai, Logitech G500 or G9x because they use the new Avago ADNS-9500 Sensor which tracks at a impressive 6 metre's a second by 100,000 counts a second. I have to give the edge to the Xai. the Xai is a big improvement over the Ikari. the LCD is higher resolution and instead of just displaying profile name and cpi it has a scrollable menu in it which has almost every single driver feature in it except creating macros and profiles like you can edit jitter and prediction values, edit freemove values, edit cpi increments in increments of 1 for both x and y axis, edit polling rate in increments of 1 and a new intuitive auto-adjusting lift feature. the configuration of this mouse is impressive.

Did your warranty run out on your ikari? usually expensive mice have around 2 year warranty, but I would most likely by a logitech one as a replacement just because there service is so good and so is their build quality for their mice atleast my g9 scroll wheel had an issue they sent a me a new one after sending them a few pictures of the mouse.

he is cutting it close, the warranty is 12 months. my modified Ikari is older and has lasted longer. it might be his USB cable.

Deathadder FTW, its a wonderful mouse and very durable - I love mine paired with a Steelpad QCK+ heavy

Go for the G9. I went from a Razer Diamondback to this G9 and ill never use Razer again. They just feel tacky and not up to Logitechs quality.

having owned the death adder, the g5, and the g9x. THe g9x wins hands down.

Its large so fits in the hand well, adjustible weights, removeble top for a smooth or textured feel (like either death adder or the g5)
profile support for mutliple gamers on the fly dpi, changabel colors for the dpi notification.

great mouse. would rate the death adder a 7/10. I just do not like the way it feels. It slides to easy and is light.

G5 - 8/10 textured feel to it, adjustable weights.

G9 - 9/10

you in no way shape or form want your mouse to have a lot of mass, based purely on the physics of the situation. your reaction time to move your mouse will be slower with a heavier mouse. As long as your desk isn't an air hockey table I would hope that you are able stop your mouse where you want on your own accord.

and don't call me a razer fan, I think most of their products are gimmicky sh*t and same goes right back at logitech (the only logitech mouse I will use today is a mx518 gg which is wonderful, it just breaks all the time with a short in the cord[had 5 of them])

the deathadder is a solid mouse that wont break on you and works flawlessly. Of course there is always the personal opinion of how well it fits your hand. For me I have long fingers and certain mice are too small for my hands, but the DA works great for my hand size.

Agreed on the long fingers. The end of the G9 hit me about half way between the two bends in my fingers, but my Deathadder leaves < 1cm of my fingertips off. Made it much more comfortable for me.

Thanks for the response. Now I have a little more to think about. The problems with my Ikari have kind of put me off from Steelseries so I don't think that I'll be spending $90 on the Xai, I also don't like the shape of it. The Xai doesn't appear to be too comfortable.

I was kind of put off by Razer mice for that very reason, they seemed too gimmicky. I also have pretty large hands so finding the right mouse can be a little difficult. I'm going to stop by Best buy and put my hands on a deathadder, if I don't impulse buy first which wouldn't surprise me.

I also completely agree on having a nice light mouse. I tried to use my Sidewinder again after almost a year with the ikari and the difference in weight really threw me off.

I just went from a Copperhead (RIP) to a G9x. The G9 is nice, but too damn heavy even with no weights in it. I suppose I'm used to a lighter mouse, but I'm starting to get familiar with the G9 now.

That sucks, I may be able to pull that off on a hard mouse pad but I really like my QCK+. The added resistance with my Sidewinder which is also a heavy mouse kind of bothered me.

lol A4-Tech X-755K here.... it was very cheap, is fully programmable (1mb instruction storage) has a big orange knob on the thumbside,surrounded by a coolie hat, sensor can be adjusted on 6 different,programmable levels... and overall its very sturdy, i hit the desk a hundred times with it, during playing fps, its like new

I can't decide between the DA 3g and the 3.5G. Is it worth the extra money? I only use 1600cpi on my Ikari.
