Ive tried googlin for it all readybut all the stuff ive come up with is either realy bad quality, doesnt do what i need, or has a time limit so i crnt fit the whole film on. Not sure if there is a free one, unless you go open source...

if you do decide to pay.. convert x to dvd has never given me problems.. try the trial!

I use a program called PowerISO. There is a free and a pay version. They are exactly the same, but the free version pops up a "GO REGISTER" window every start of the program. It has full functionality as well. That is the best program IMO: HERE

I don't think there is any all in one program (especially not free one).
I just use FormatFactory for any multimedia format conversions (very simple to use and can convert loads of formats in all ways) and Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free.
But most of movies found online (you know which ones i mean) are already encoded in a way to support the widest possible range of DVD (DivX/XviD) players.
Unless if you mean by "standard normal DVD player" a DVD player that doesn't have any DivX playback capabilities...
