Save your 135 bucks and just grab a 5870 instead with that extra money.
Physx is not looking good for the future, I will certainly not buy a Geforce just for Physx.
Its fine if you already own one, but buying a new 260 192SP is simply not worth it.

Edit: Your board actually have CFX, I say buy a HD5770 and enjoy, then later grab another for CrossfireX.

Then I guess you should wait.
The GTX 260 (196SP) is 65nm ant it sucks a ton to power for no apparent benefit. :shadedsh
@$135 it isn't cheap either.

If you are determined to get a new card right now. Don't get the 260 SP192. It was replaced and discontinued for a reason. I don't know about prices in your country but the GTX 260 SP216 55nm (newest revision) is a far superior product. For the extra money (which should be minimal) you can get the newest version of the GTX 260 an get 15 to 23% boost in performance at stock speed. Hell, my GTX 260 Black Edition from XFX is almost as powerful as a GTX 280 and out performs all GTX 275 at their stock speed.

^I just can't support idea, atm, for nvidia anything. Sure, if he had a card already maybe where Zubasa said it best too damn much power draw for so little gain.

one 5850 would be way enough. Hell of an card I might add and what goes to physics 8600GT or some really really low power consumption (no PCI-E cables) & cheap card would probably do just fine. Not worth to spend cash for nothing plus the fighting to get it actually working.

the gtx260 is at a fairly low price, but i agree that you may as well save the money and either get a hd5870, or put it towards a future crossfire 5850 build. OpenCL is likely to take over from physX, due to PhysXs proprietary nature. However, if i were to buy a card around that price point, i would try to hunt down a Hd5770 or so, since dx11 looks very promising due to its relatively fast uptake by developers. I was surprised that a few devs are putting dx11 upgrades to console ports* too (battlefield bad company 2 for example), which is always nice.

* a term being loosely used to mean anything that also comes out on consoles, meaning that we are usually limited to dx9 and pretty bland visuals. It's been far too long since we had a truly spectacular looking pc game though (crysis warhead being the last one really), so maybe dx11 will mean we finally get some better visuals.

That 260 would be about twice as fast as your current card but wait til you can get a 5870 and that again will be about 4 times as fast.

indeed, there's little point jumping to a generation of cards that are on the way out (this wasn't a problem for the last 3 generations, but this time the new stuff has dx11 capability).

A "4850 GDDR5" is basically a slower 4870
That "4850 GDDR5" basically ends up performs close to a GTX 260 (192SP), so again too much power usage for no good reason.

im currently using the gtx 260 192 for physx and it rocks. when its not being used it drops its clock rate and voltage (I think it does) so it shouldnt suck up too much power. Being used as a physx card only should be too bad either, physx isnt as power hungery as a renderer. I got my 5850 as a renderer and to me its a perfect combo.

The problem is they guy is looking to buy a not so cheap GTX 260 for new.
If you need a Physx card you can always get a GT220 or something along those lines, and as a renderer it isn't stellar either.

they are good cards... the 192's OC higher than any other gt200 bar the 285 and the 270. for $135 its actually a good deal - and will easily be double the speed of your 2900. Price/performance wise they are great cards. Plus they are very quiet cards - and they draw less power than the 48xx series.

In my experience the 260 is a smoother card than the 4870 512MB and even the 1024MB to some extent... i cant really describe it except when I tested both cards, the 260 OC'd much higher and the framerates at stock were more consistent with less variation than the 4870.

Dual 260's will cost $270 and match the 5870 in performance so the price/perf these cards are at peak right now.

I bet a 4890 cost much less that that, while performs better.

It should be faster than the 5850, and it should be on par to the 5870 to be honest, but the HD5ks need better drivers right now for CFX.

In TC's HAWX 5770 CF actually kicks the 5870 in the ass and takes on the GTX 285 SLI
http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...review-test/17
In 3Dmark Vantage, its some where between a 5850 and a 5870, and this really shows that the HD5ks do have potential.

No.
The faster card simply slows down in CFX, and I am not sure if its even possible.
