laptop memory
I have a sony vgn-nr140E laptop. It came with 1GB of memory i think. And i remember adding a 2GB stick without a problem. I just recently switched to a matched 4GB set and the laptop is trying to run it at 4-4-4-12 when its rated at 5-5-5-15. I could have sworn it automatically handled this the first time. But i could be crazy. Any way to fix this or just send the memory back?

Perhaps it did handle it at first. Did you add a 2nd 2GB stick to the existing stick? Different timings on the two may have defaulted into something the computer would boot with.
Is there anyway to set the timings in the bios with the new sticks?

i checked the bios and there is absolutely nothing other than boot options. The only reason i know its at 4-4-4-12 still is because it runs long enough to boot into memtest and lock up.
