Which is better?

I have a choice between 2 video cards.
Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
and
EVGA 9800GT 1GB DDR3

The HD4850 slightly equal to the 9800GT in performance in general and is $40 cheaper. Price is not an object to performance. Which can I push further based on overclocking?

Wut?
The 9800GT gets destroyed hands down by the HD 4770 dude.
HD 4850 = GTS 250 and slightly better in AA.

The 9800GT wouldn't come close unless you game at some crazy resolution, but then both cards wouldn't be enough anyways.

It still makes no sense why he only has two cards on the table. Especially when their are better products in the same general price range. A 4870 is only an extra 20 spot at this point, extra $35 gets a 4870 with 1 GB GDDR5. The GTS 250 in that area, and possible a GTX 260 considering upcoming sells.

I really want to know where he got those two very specific choices from.

he only has a 450W psu so i'm guessing his limited to those cards,i would go for the 4850 as its the better card out of them all or the GTS250

Go for the 4850, it's about on par with the 9800GTX+ AKA GTS 250, but make sure you get one of the Sapphire ones or another one with aftermarket cooling, the reference single-slot cooler is terrible

The 4850 is better than 9800 gt.
The 4850 is equivalent to 250gts

I'll go to an HD4850 Sapphire or Powercolor or Asus with good stock cooling ;-)

GTS 250 is just a renamed 9800 GTX, that also was a renamed 8800 GTX
so get a Radeon HD 4850, why? no crappy renameing and miss leading of customers
and the Radeon is cheap and has DX10.1

I'd get the 4850 and overclock it in CCC when you get it.

GTS250 or 4850. Same performance just pick whichever is cheaper. If you can't get a GTS250 get the 4850.
