Working on getting my voltage-hungry E7400 to 3.8 on crappy air cooling.
It can be done. Check out those low low temps!

I figured out the best way to overclock on this board/CPU. I put CPU Termination, CPU PLL, CPU Reference, the Northbridge, etc to their stock, suggested settings. It turned out in not only lower temps but a system which is more easily stabilized by tweaking only the Vcore. Those other settings literally do not need to be touched, at least in my situtation. I am now at 3.8GHz, and pretty sure I'd consider it 'stable':

You think 1.392 is "off the roof"?
![]() ![]() ![]() I have to set this E5200 to ~1.53 volts to get it stable at 3.8 GHz, and you're saying 1.39 is high! You really need to get better cooling though, those temps are way off the chart. Even with the ridiculous voltage I was pumping through this chip, I've never gone above 75 at load. EDIT: Were you talking about the 3.3, 5 and 12 volt readings? If so, then I really wouldn't pay attention to them. SpeedFan thinks my 12 volt rail runs at 10 volts D:

Nah I know the voltage readings are bonked in SpeedFan. I am talking about the voltage I have to feed this E7400 for it to be happy. I wanna test 4GHz with >1.39v but I'm afraid to see CPU temp hit 99C. I know it's possible because I saw it say 91C for a second when I was benching that pic above. Now that I've set all the other voltages to stock, I'm at the 16th Linpack run with the voltage I started out with in the first pic (which did not turn out to be stable)... And yet I still wanna push for 4.0 Linpack stable

Nope the first pic's voltage is no good for 3.8, crashes after half hour. Needs 1.39v for sure.

What are you using, stock cooler? D:
Seriously, you're probably going to end up damaging the CPU if you keep this up, put some decent cooling on it!

Dang that CPU is smoking hot. I don't OC to often but I have my E8400 at 3.7GHz (atm) with 40c idle and I'm still using stock fan until I start my mass upgrade in 2010. The good thing about my CPU is I can oc .7GHz past its stock clock and barely have to change anything.
Hopefully you can get that temp down to a more stable number.

Well if you guys are comparing Linpack numbers then OK. And yes I'm using a crappy cooler, the Masscool 92MM cooler. It's only about 10 degrees below stock on average, probably half that with Linpack. Gets the job done though. Gonna leave it at 3.8 with 1.392 volts for now.
