System Tests run, 2 Failed results

So I was having lots of problems installing windows and linux even after formatting the drives. So I ran the GEEK SQUAD diagnostics disc and it checked my full hardware. Everything PASSED, except under the heading PROCESSOR:

MMX Operation - FAILED
Maths Co-Processor Tests - FAILED

So what could be the solution to this?? Anybody knows? What can I do to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What hardware do you have? Did you assemble it yourself?

What the message essentially means is that you need to get a new cpu. However, when a test marks a faulty cpu you can't exclude that the fault is in fact in the motherboard rather than the cpu.
Motherboard faults are much more common than cpu faults (me personally have never heard of a cpu failing, even during overclocking - unless you really installed the heatsink badly and your bios isn't programmed to shut down the pc on overheating, or unless you over-volted your cpu beyond its safe capacity).

Welcome to TPU btw!

im pretty sure its the cpu now because the problem actually began when i had a failing cpu cooling fan and it was running extremely slow and the computer just used to turn off abruptly - mostly due to heating i am guessing. After running it like this for a week or 2 (i know i was lazy to change it), I bought a CPU fan and installed it. The Fan was running fast but then i noticed the graphics on my screen starting to flicker with red blue green lines - this was only on videos but not on open documents or desktop. For example, if I would open youtube, then the video would be full of dirty colours and you cant even watch the video. I thought the graphic card failed so i bought a new graphic card right away and guess what - same problem. Then i thought its a software problem so I formatted my harddrive and when i tried re installing windows XP, I would various errors like - "fatal error, xp signature error, blue screen would pop up, stuff like that. I tried with other xp cds too, and same thing. Then I tried windows vista, windows 7, even linux....everytime i would get errors. I even got windows 98 and it failed to install. SO then i ran the GEEK SQUAD system diagnostics CD and it shows the following FAILED tests on the processor -
MMX Operation - FAILED
Maths Co-Processor Tests - FAILED

All motherboard and video card tests had passes.

My system specs are:
2GB RAM - 2X1GB
Pentium D Celeron 3.2Ghz
1GB ATI 4550
1TB harddrive

Thanks for the welcome!

sorry for not listing the specs.
Its a PENTIUM D Celeron 3.2 Ghz (not overclocked)
2GB RAM - 1GB times 2
1TB Harddrive
1GB ATI RADEON 4550 HD
ASROCK Core2dual motherboard

Let me know what you guys think as I am personally guessing its a CPU problem but let me know what you all may think.

I did basic troubleshooting by removing the PCI cards and RAM one by one but that didnt help either. However, I ran the CPU tests again and got the same results. When I ran the tests, Harddrive is fully formatted and the BIOS is at factory reset. The errors which I get are only in processor so I am guessing its just the CPU. I am not sure though. Here are the attached pictures of the results, Pic 2 and 3 are in continuation. Let me know what you guys think:

also, all these problems began after my heatsink fan had died. I delayed in putting the heatsink and ran the computer without a heatsink for about 2 weeks. The computer would keep shutting down due to overheating but i still kept using it. After I got the fan, I just took that one out and put this new one on. Someone asked me If I had used a thermal paste and I didnt use one. I just took that one out and put this one in. So maybe that burned it? I am not sure.

You may have fried it then.
Try using prime95 to test with and use core temp to check your temps at 100% load.
Then post your results back here.

probably a dead cpu

Pentium D are nothing more then 2 hot running pentium 4s strapped together for the most part and they tend to run hot at least the ones i owned so when the fan died u ran it to hot for to long

closet way to explain it is to remove the coolant from your car and try driving somewhere and see what happens and no thermalpaste means proper contact between the heatsink and the cpu is non existant resulting in again high temps. as far as i can tell you cooked the cpu like a puppy in the microwave zzzrrrrrrrrr POP

ohhh i see. So are pentium Ds better than a Pentium 4. Like which one would you prefer? A 3.2Ghz pentium D with 553Mhz FSB or a 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 with 800Mhz FSB?

According to my research, Pentium 4s are more stable in long term...but what about speed? Are they the same?

It is the processor.

Allow me to quote myself...

And allow me to add to the above "unless you ran your cpu with its heatsink fan not working"....

blackpanther, that is right. The heatsink fan was running extremely slow and i let it run like that for like 2 weeks until it fully died. At this point the computer kept shutting off due to overheating and i Just waited for 5 mins and turned it back on. I know i shouldve bought the fan right away (laziness) but yea i know i burned the CPU

The overheating may have caused rampant electron migration within the processor, causing circuits to break or short out within the processor.
