Iiyama Intros Two New ProLite Series 27 inch HD Monitors

Iiyama introduced two new 27-inch full-HD LCD monitors, both part of its ProLite family. The B2712HDS/-B and E2710HDS/-B come with low power draw for their panel sizes, 45W operational, and 1W when on standby. Both have native resolutions of 1920 x 1080 pixels, brightness of up to 400 cd/m², contrast ratio (static) of 1000:1, and response time of 5 ms with 2 ms grey-to-grey. Input connectivity on both include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI, and both come in black or white.

The differences between the B2712HDS/-B and E2710HDS/-B start with the former having a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1 and 1.5W internal stereo speakers, while the latter has 20,000:1, and 2W internal stereo speakers, along with a USB hub. The B2712HDS/-B and E2710HDS/-B are priced at US $458 and $435, respectively.

"full HD" but not 1920x1200. It is such a shame that consumer "full HD" has allowed monitor manufacturers to REDUCE resolution and not increase resolution, esp. pixel density that was one of the main roadmap features of Vista: scalable destop.

Is scalable desktop fully implemented in win7? And cleartype on 90° rotation? I find it funny that WindowsCE can do cleartype on rotation, but desktop windows cant. (sorry if the Q is OT)

Agreed Lemonade, I mean there comes a time when you can only stretch 1920 x 1080 so much on a desktop and it starts looking like crap (compared to how TVs do it). They should up the resolution starting at 24" or higher. For this size, as you said eitehr 1920 x 1200 or higher should be the standard. Nice price though on the monitors.

Sadly it seems like the days of 16:10 monitors are dead and that we have to live with 16:9 displays instead.

However, there's still hope, I have a Samsung SyncMaster BW2343+ which does 2048x1152, yet is only a 23-inch display. It's great to be able to do side by side windows which are 1024x1152 pixels

The new iMac's have 2650x1440 resolution on the 27-inch models, so why didn't Iiyama manage to do the same on these 27-inchers?

Remember Iiyama are budget / lower spec makers of panels, for more exotic resolutions, HD scaling and so on you need to look at Samsung, LG and Dell.

Still, id have a 24" ProLite any day of the week.

Iiyama is not a low quality, poor spec brand, are you nuts or do you know nothing about monitors? Sure, they have some consumer budget models in their range, but they also have some very high-end and specialised displays that you won't find from other run of the mill manufacturers. They might not be Eizo, but they're not far behind...

I have the SM2343BW which is also 23" and displays 2048x1152 , good to be able to display 2 full size web pages side by without having to scroll across the screen

2560 x 1440 (what the 27-inch Macs use) is 16:9, while 2560 x 1600 is 16:10. Macs are maintaining a much better pixel density compared to these screens.

Makes the iMacs a good deal. For EUR 1400 you can get a decent iMac with 2560x1440. For EUR1400 you can alternatively buy a separate 2560x1600 monitor. Close call.

Anyone seen the quality of these new iMac screens?

It is a shame we arent seeing more 20-24" high pixel density screens. I'm not blind, and can quite happily work with 1 or 2 20" screens so long as the resolution is there.

What a shame there arent any 5:4 2000x1600 screens at 20". And three. Side by side. Perfect productivity desktop (for me). Nice. Eyefinity. Nicer.

Booh! to 16:9 screens. I would rather play (not that I do) HD content on 16:10. The "black bars" leave room for the taskbar and/or media control and/or subtitles out of the way of the picture.

In the UK Iiyama is looked at as a cost cut brand, not knocking the build quality at all, just stating whats happening over here.

I would agree with you 100% if you said this a year or two ago. But it seems that Iiyama has left the pro market and gone consumer and now does pretty much ONLY TN TFTs!

Wow, that's indeed sad news if it's the case, they used to make some really good screens. I guess it's just Eizo and NEC left then.
Where I currently live it's hard to get anything decent, Eizo is way too expensive and no-one else seem to sell anything but TN screens here

@lemonadesoda - The new iMac screens are stunningly beautiful. They're back to the quality they used to have in the white-cased iMacs, which is to say, Cinema Display quality.

Let's hope Apple release some new cinema displays in the 20"-27" format, with 1440 or 1600 in the y. 30" is too big and too expensive for my tastes.

Yet again, it is design, style, and competition from Apple that makes the PC market make progress. Thank heavens for Apple. Just NEVER make me have to work in OSX.
