Windows 7 automatically installs drivers...

I've got another issue with Windows 7. It automatically installs drivers. I was uninstalling my Nvidia drivers and when I rebooted to reinstall, the operating system found the driver package and installed it on it's own. Can I shut this off?

That happens with Vista as well. Boot into safe mode.

Type: Windows Update
Select: change settings (left side)
Under: Important Updates, select the option that suites your needs.

And/Or, review the other selections that best suite your needs.

Run driver sweeper in Safe Mode. Then when you boot into Windows it will install the generic driver that ships with Win7(no big deal), then install the driver you prefer.

isn't that just for downloading updates? Because when I first installed it i was offline and it installed some MS drivers for my graphics card anyway (and they were horrible).

You can tell windows 7 to stop installing updates yes. It will automatically download and install all unselected updates in queue when you restart or turn off your PC. If it's already in your update queue you can select to hide it by right clicking on the update and selecting hide it and it will not install.

When uninstall driver, go to Device Manager, and uninstall the device, make sure you check the box "Delete software for this device". It will then install a "genetic" driver after reboot, and then you can install the new driver on it.

Once you have this issue corrected. Set your updates to inform you before installing them. Then if it ever shows an update for your GPU, simply right click and choice (Hide this update). It will never try to install those drivers again.
