Intel Delivers Fresh SSD Firmware Update, Brings TRIM Support

A little over a month after retracting its second faulty firmware for its otherwise breakthrough 34 nm X25-M G2 solid state drives (SSD), Intel released the 2CV102HD firmware update, this one hopefully being free of any critical bugs. The firmware update works for both the X25-M and X18-M SSDs. The firmware adds TRIM capability to the SSDs, which works to minimize data fragmentation at the hardware-level on systems with Windows 7. The 2CV102HD firmware update can be found here.

have they sorted TRIM out for RAID yet?

considering another pair of 80GB drives to bring me to 4 drives in total, but TRIM in RAID is going to have to happen before in invest in more

Very unlikely that there will be RAID support soon as it needs the southbridge chips/sata controller cards to be able to pass the TRIM commands through to raid cards and none of them support that yet.

I'm excited to finally install Windows 7 and take advantage of this firmware fix to enable TRIM. I can't update until tonight though, so please post back if you've installed this successfully!

You'd better wait a week or so, intel have bad record on updating it's SSD firmwares. I wonder how it could sell these to enterprise class.

I think he was talking about using the SSDs with the on-board RAID (i.e., built into the Southbridge).
