Game Booster: Does it improve performance in the games you play?

I've read about Game Booster but wasn't really sure if this program really works in providing a boost in frame rates. From my understanding this program works by temporarily shutting down background processes.

What are your results using this program?

How much RAM do you have on the rig you are considering this for?
By it's description it shuts down processes to improve performance, but that is a tenuous claim at best with the latest processors and the copious amounts of RAM many people are using.

There was a thread made about this program like a while back.. I tried it then and did not notice any difference my self. Was good for finding a few other services that you could shutdown though

I believe a few others liked it though.

Yes the general consensus is it's better to do it manually, if at all, like with Black Viper's list. Though I doubt any of us would see any major improvement in gaming these days on machines like ours. When I had an 850 Mhz Windows 98 rig with 512MB of PC-100 I bothered to tweak services. Not so much anymore besides turning off indexing and system restore and stuff like that.

Memory management is also a lot better in modern operating systems like Windows 7.

But it's good for those who want those services on while not playing and this program makes it quick to turn them off while you do game.

And indexing can improve system performance if setup right. This program don't turn either of those off as when you do at least for system restore it deletes the restore points when turned off.

Major improvement are not going happen unless it's turning of anti virus programs and such.

This is BS, don't run a program that messes with windows like that, if you want better performance you can only, defrag, update drivers and most importantly upgrade VGA

Mess ? erm all it does is turn them off which is what a lot of people do anyways. Had no issue's with it. So this just allows them to leave them on and turn them off when not needed

Just remember turn gaming mode off after gaming :P..

From what I've seen it's more of a convenience to disable services then anything else.

If you game online and it uses Punkbuster software do not use this program.
Have seen more than a few people get bans for running this program.

Punkbuster is the crappiest piece of software ever made. It causes some games to not even run on certain computers thanks to constant "punkbuster error messages".

Yeah PB could be coded better that's for sure but it's better than having nothing. And my (perhaps relatively limited) experience manually updating it per-game with their downloader app fixes most problems. Not to stray too far OT sorry...

Sounds about right as PB sucks and why i don't buy games that use it. Those fck turds ban you for any thing then give you more of a headache when you try to get un banned.

I've had this program for a few months now and haven't seen anything wrong with it. Game Booster is safe and works by deactivating or non-essential services and programs but the results are minimal. After you've finished gaming you can re-activate your the programs and services with a simple click of the mouse and your all ready to go again. I don't currently use it because of the minimal increase in performance but I may down the line.
