planning an upgrade... need ideas...

ok right now I have the following setup...

CPU: x3210 @ 3.2GHz (Intel 65nm quad) socket 775 (never gets above 28c)

Mobo Gigabyte EP45-ud3p

Ram: 4 x 2GB OCZ DDR2 1066 platinum

Video: GTX 260

Hard drives: 4 x 74GB RaPTORS in raid 0, 2 x 500GB west dig blue drives in raid 0

Power Supply: Power PC and Cooling 850-ssi Turbo-cool

case: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=110367

OS: Win 7 Ult 64bit

water cooling:

water block: Danger Den TDX (1156 compatible but not 1366... needs updated block top)

pump: Danger Den D4

radiator: 1977 Bonneville heater core with custom fan shround

fans: twin 90 cfm 120mm

tubes: primoflex

well what should I do? i really have no clue what I should purchase... would be buying from Newegg and the Microcenter in Overland Park, Kansas

I am trying to decided between:

1.) newer vid card

2.) i7 920 w/ 6GB ram (1366)

3.) i7 860 w/ 8GB ram (1156)

4.) i5 750 w/ 8GB ram (1156)

5.) AMD AM3 pII setup? w/ 8GB ram ?

i5 is 1156, not 1366

All I can see out of them options is a cpu upgrade, what are you looking to achieve? better gaming perf? maybe grab a GTX 285 or a HD 5850

Wait for nVidia to release its new GPU and snap up a DX11 card cheap or go for a HD 5850/HD 5870 if you want speed now. If you want a iX cpu then you also need a mobo upgrade as-well...

Could you tell us how much you are willing to spend?

more gaming performance? IMO a quad at 3.2, even an old kentsfield is still enough for playing. You can get a 5870, or a 5850 for Bang for the buck, then get another and that should do the job

EDIT: DAMN BRAVESOUL U BEAT ME =(

On your current board a Q9550 would be good and there is one member on here that has the same board and CPU with a 4.6ghz clock!

Hmm Just give your board some raw power with a q9***. Since you've got a gtx 260, upgrading for the time being isnt a wise decision! Just wait a couple more months at least.

how much faster is the q9550 than my x3210 clock for clock?

I mean I know the q9550 pulls a lot less juice at the same speeds which is a plus...

but is it reall that much faster than my x3210? I could bump it up to 3.6GHz with out getting it too hot... hell it only hits max of 72c @ 3.92GHz @ full load...

I've had my Q9450 at 3.4 gh at like 65 full load. But my cooling isnt the greatest but the 45nm clock better with lower voltages
