That upload must hurt. That ping isn't great either, I hope that's because your line is busy downloading pr0n.

The average ADSL line here does better than 18ms.

Even when I select London I get lower latency. I'd check latency to his ISP, see even it's them or something else.

Thats a cool chart. It wasent that long ago 3MB was so dam fast..

To bad the Japanese economy is so messed up, with 61mb service, the cool girls and the great food i would consider moving there just to be closer to all the anime..

Ping isn't a measure of distance. It's how many milliseconds it takes for data to reach the server and return to you. I has ALOT to do with the connection. If there is alot of traffic on the network you will have a higher ping.

The 50meg line from virgin is not capped and it is true unlimited, thats why i went to the 50 meg line @moonpig. Alot of companys say they are unlimited but infact they are not. I know sky's top package has a 40gig download limit and if you go over that they charge £1.50 per gig.

the thing is in this country alot of people are happy to pay for the slower connections, so they charge us more overall. Virgin can supply 200mb lines but they dont because compared to the competition 50mb is god dam fast. Why have would they spend more money on upgrading servers and hubs to accommodate 200mb lines when they can flog us 50mb.

i know thats what it means, but i ment to say that it also depends on the distance to and from the server that your a pining. Plus a ping of 18 is not bad for the UK.

Im on the lowest sky package and its not unlimited yet i have on occasion been over the limit and havnt been charged.
I was once warned on talktalk but never actually charged!

AOL is the single worst connection ive ever had. That was back on dial up days.

I go for cheap and cheerful with broadband, which isnt exactly a good idea lol but i was never the bill payer so i didnt have a choice.

EDIT: That broadband tax is meant to be solving everything, we will see if it does or not.

The fastest I can get here is 24 mbs DSL, T1, or T3, but since I'm not rich nor near the university I have to settle for my 10 mbs cable connection. =P

I normally take speedtest with a pinch of salt sure it can look impressive but its quite inacurate.

best bet is to dl something from your isp to give you better idea of speeds.
