I doubt there are drivers available for the motherboard, or most of the other hardware for that matter...

No, there are no drivers for it. I solved this issue by getting an old laptop to be my DOS machine.

i wanted to use it (98 that is) as i've still got some old games that are in perfect working order just that i never got round to playing them years ago
anyways pp i remember trying to put 98se on this pc (in the specs) and she just wouldn't have it just constant bsod ,and this old gal is like 6 years old and it was before i changed my gpu,
still i'd also like to know how to other than using vmware and dos box (which reminds me of mame)

Id only keep 98SE around for 16bit apps that will absolutely not run on XP.

Otherwise in some sense the PCI Express Video card will be interpreted as a AGP card, but there is no guarantee there will be drivers for it.

I think Nvidia dropped support for the boot procedure for FAT32 on the chipsets of NF3 and higher (or it may of been drivers for FAT32 based OS's)... I remember reading about that on some of the older mainboards newegg still had on sale..

Anybody got a nice Pentium or K6 based machine laying around they wanna give for shipping?

Windows 98 will not be completely functional because:

Not designed for PCIe
Not designed for SATA
Last GPUs supported (drivers) are GeForce 6 and Radeon 9XXX
Only runs best with up to 512MB RAM
Chipset drivers up to nForce 3, Intel 8xx, and just about all VIA chipsets

I'd recommend putting together a legacy computer just for the older OS + Programs, e.g a Pentium III based PC (there are newer systems than this that are compatible, just Pentium III is a reasonable architecture from the late 90s.)

You can find good ole P4 (pM) laptops with 512 mb ram under $150 that are perfectly compatible with win98, give that a try.
