Replace 17"WXGA (1440x900) with 17"WUXGA (1920x1200) ?

CAN I REPLACE the 17" WXGA screen (which has a maximum resolution of 1440x900) with a 17" WUXGA screen (which has a maximum resolution of 1920x1200).

If there was a 1920*1200 screen available for that exact laptop, or an upgraded version of that same laptop, it is certainly possible.

I spend all day looking for an exact match without any luck... but I did find a screen that is for the (Gateway P-7805u FX). Will it fit and work flawlessly with the (Gateway P-7908u FX) ?

If you're lucky, and that panel is exact same size and shape, it would fit into the bezel and work. Most of the ribbon interface cables are the same for a given product line.

I'm going to say, yes it will work. Looking at pictures from every angle with both laptops, they are identical looking.

Why do you want to change it? The only reason I know of to warrant that change is if you did things such as professional photography where you need higher DPI. I have a 19" WXGA monitor and it looks fine for gaming. If you mostly game, I would leave the monitor alone because higher resolution means more strain on the GPU.

not only that but higher res means as you begin to lower the res / settings to keep newer games playable its going to start looking worse sooner as runnin an LCD at anything other then its native res can in some cases look terrible

- 1440x900 WXGA+ screens can't play full HD 1080p videos.
- At 1920x1200 resolution everything is smaller so that means more room to do stuff, and as a developer I found it more productive to work at that resolution.

I think those are the main reasons I wanted to upgrade to a screen with that resolution, but after reading the seller's email, your suggestions, and keeping in mind that the warranty might get null I found it best not to upgrade.
