Dead 8800 gts 512 need help choosing new gpu

Hi guys, like the title says my 8800 gts 512 died. Now I need something new but I’m not sure what to get and worse of it all I can't wait I’m too bored.
I got three things to worry about:

Price Difference
Performance for my resolution (1440x900)
My power Supply

GTX 260

If you can find a GTX 260 for 150 bucks and you just want nvidia power, then go ahead and buy it. A HD 5770 is a great card i guess, and its dx11 with the speed of a HD 4870, which is just as fast as a GTX 260.

I got 2 260's so im enjoying life but get a HD 5770, it uses alot less power, overclocks like a beast, and is just as fast as a GTX 260 but with support and features of future cards.

I have the 5770s and they are fine but if I was in ur shoes I would look for a 512 version (especially at ur res) of the GTS250. Its quite a bit less $ than the 5770.
The GTS 250 with 55nm, shorter PCB and single 6pin is a better card than ur old 8800GTS.

EDIT:
just noticed the 1gig ones are like $10 more than the 512 versions..Try for a used 512 version in the $75-100 range.
(the 5770 isant $75-100 better than a GTS250)

I would go with a 250 gts it's the cheapest solution and will be great at your resolution. It is basically your old card but will overclock a bunch better.

Sapphire is the one that makes the majority of ATi cards

If you are really looking for an upgrade over your dead 8800GTS, I say go for it.
About the GTS 250....
Jumping from G92 to G92b just doesn't make much sense.

i agree lol won't make sense to jump to the same card again,go with the 5770 you won't be disappointed and it last you a good solid 2 years or so.

i will go with the 260 has Physx, Cuda etc its fast and actualy there is no game with Dx11 tech (yeah we have DiRT 2) 260 all the way.

At idle, 5770 takes 17w and 260 takes 31w so power diff = 14w

say, you use your pc 12 hours a day, so 14*60*60*12= 604800w = 0.168kWh a day

use it for 1.5 years 0.168*365*1.5=91.98kWh

Cost of electricity in US~12cents/Kwh ---> 91.98*0.12=$11 savings!

So yeah, depending on usage, it will save you about $10-20 if you go for 5770.

Says here that 5770 kicks GTX260 at all res, and price is roughly the same. In the long run, running 5770 is marginally cheaper, 5770 is the way to go. You get DX11 for free too

to be honest i'd save yourself a bit of a future upgrade and just get a 5850 or 5870. i can never see buying lowend cards, it just makes for a quicker update schedule. If money is a constraint however, i would get a 5770, i'm falling more and more in love with amd cards everyday

right now nvidia's only benefit is cuda and physx but all in all its not worth it anymore, buy the 5770 its performance is similar to the GTX260's, it overclocks like crazy, uses less power, and is cheaper'

and did anyone notice the GTX series got more expensive around the HD5XXX cards release(due to shortages)

It is a tough decision.

The HD5770 is cheaper, but it also performs worse.

Yes, it has DX11, but it is already struggling to mainatin playable framerates with DX10 games, so how will it actually perform with DX11? I have a feeling that, even though it supports DX11, when the DX11 games come out, people with HD5770's are going to have to disable most of the DX11 features to actually manage playable framerates.(Just like most people that jumped on the early mid-range DX10 cards had to run most games in DX9 to make the games playable).

Personally, I'd go with a GTX275...

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will go with the 5770 for the price and close performance to the gtx 260 and maybe use the spare cash to buy a new Cpu HSF

Just out of curiosity, how did the old card die?? Do you see artifacts over the screen, random lockups, or just mysteriously not boot one day? Just asking since if that card can be resurrected it's still a very decent card to fold on.

The computer posted but before booting into windows i would get yellow lines all over the screen and all the text distorted ( weird characters and out of place) then it would enter windows with more artifacts and without the driver cause that would make windows bsod.

This all happened after i upgraded the latest nvidia driver one day but i really didn't know what happened to it

Try using the onboard video, uninstall the new driver, reinstall the old driver and try again.

Tried it and it didn't work i used both windows xp and windows 7. Also i used GPU-Z if could find something and the GPU and Memory Clocks read 0 Mhz .

2) You rather have a card that doesn't support DirectX11 simply because you won't need to disable certain functions? Where's the logic behind that.
3) So, you'd advice someone to pay $300 for a GTX 275 while he could get a superior 5850 for the same money?

The HD5770 is cheaper, but it also performs worse. Yes, it has DX11, but it is already struggling to mainatin playable framerates with DX10 games, so how will it actually perform with DX11? I have a feeling that, even though it supports DX11, when the DX11 games come out, people with HD5770's are going to have to disable most of the DX11 features to actually manage playable framerates.(Just like most people that jumped on the early mid-range DX10 cards had to run most games in DX9 to make the games playable). Do you see artifacts over the screen, random lockups, or just mysteriously not boot one day? Just asking since if that card can be resurrected it's still a very decent card to fold on.
