Building rig for myself first time.!!!HELP!!!

Hi guys, First of all thank you so much for helping me in selecting the parts. Here’s the list of parts so far. I am just a student, so please tell me where I can save or where it is worth spending more. Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

Purpose: Performance PC/ HD Video Editing/ Multimedia PC. NO GAMING AT ALL.

Budget: To save as much as I can while not compromising with quality so much.

OC: Yes. Up to safe mode. 3.8Ghz

Platform: WIN 7 Ultimate X64. (I already have that)

Parts Finalised So Far

Processor: i7 920
RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB DDR3 1333. CL: 7. Timing: 7-7-7-20. Voltage: 1.5v Model:TR3X6G1333C7 G
HDD: Seagate 1 TB. 7200rpm. SATA. (I already have that)
PSU: Corsair 520w HX520
DVD Writer: Liteon (selected vs Pioneer vs Sony)
Mobo: Asus P6T (selected vs P6T Deluxe vs Gigabyte EX58-UD5)
Comments: PC authority recommends Gigabyte. It’s in their top list. Check here. Any feedback???
GPU: ASUS Radeon HD 4670
Comments: Is it too much or too less? I need HDMI output and1920X1080 true resolution in the end.
PC Case: Gigabyte Setto 1024 AXBS11-CNB
Comments: Would that be all right for the airflow? We are doing OCing. I don’t wanna spend too much on case at this stage. I’ll upgrade the case later otherwise I really liked Cooler Master HAF 932RC–932M-KKN1-GP.
Monitor: Asus MS246H.
Comments: Anyone knows another good design monitor 2ms response, Res: 1920X1080, HDMI input and with TV Tuner at a budget price.
Cooling: I need your opinion on that.
Comments: I don’t wanna spend on after market cooling at this stage. Is it really necessary?

Not possible. You will need a very good cooler for that, preferably the best you can find. Good guide: http://www.frostytech.com/

PSU@520W: its probably enough, but I would go for a higher 650w if it is not too expensive

Get the HAF932 straight, it saves you money from buying a case and then replace it again. Alternatively you can go for a mid end one like CM690 and not bother to upgrade it.

Well i would go with a HD5670 1GB when it comes out this month ....

and i would go with a normal PSU if you are not keen on modular ones since they will cost less and you could go for a 650W or a 750W PSU ... but your current selection will suffice for the parts that you have chosen ...

and as for the cooler the ones below can help you to hit even 4.0GHz ....

a corsair modular 450w can run that system fourstaff no problem,the 520 corsair is a modular too,very very good psu it can run those parts easily.

Silent and i7 don't go together. i7 chips bring the heat and need lotsa cooling.

The stock cooler on the i7's isn't very good -definitely going to need a better cooler especially if you plan on overclocking. The Asus P6T is a fine motherboard. The case will work but I'd try to find one that supports more case fans (that HAF932 will keep your system a lot cooler than the Gigabyte one) -and get some quality case fans as well! The video card will suffice but make sure it's got DDR3 and not DDR2 for memory -I think the Asus EAH4670 MD1-G has DDR3 so you should be okay. If you can wait until the 5600 series of video cards comes out as afw said they might be worth looking into but not necessary as you'll not be gaming at all. Monitors' qualities can be subjective so I can't help with that much.

You don't need to buy a 3rd party cooler if you are not going to overclock the CPU. You will definitely need one if you plan on overclocking.

Performance wise, the 920 is very good, but you might find that the i5 750 is almost as fast and quite a bit cheaper, especially the motherboard for it.

Yes, buy an aftermarket cooler. It's essential. And yes, you can get a silent 800 rpm fan.

Don't piss around with the $5 Intel cooler.

An XFX or Asus 4890 would be all you need for a graphics card, maybe you can find one used for $100, check the for sale forums here as well.

Yes you should spend $60 on an aftermarket cooler you wont regret it, especialy since its summer, and since you said you are going to overclock then u MUST HAVE IT.

if you want to save money, use a 1156 I7 instead, MUCH cheaper, simmiler performance for the price....

the 4670 is absolutly fine to use!
the psu is fine.
the HAF932 would also be a good chose to go with.
also my personal preference would be to go with the Asus motherboard. P6T Delux
if the ram overclocks with a little more voltage then thats great as well (max SAFE voltage is 1.65)

I baffles me why everyone here is telling this guy to buy 600+ watt psu's and HD4890 gfx cards!!!! Jesus....

He just wants a basic pc. with NO gaming!!!

H doesn't want a HAF932 massive gaming case, I am sure he would prefer something more stylish and quieter and smaller...

The corsair HX520 psu is great I have one and it is plenty big enough for him.

I do agree with the aftermarket cooler though, that is a must. There are tonnes of them out there. the website below has a couple of decent ones.

If you live in melbourne mate, try pccasegear.com. They are pretty good on price and service. I use them all the time, although their postage costs are a bit over the top at times.

I feel insecure with low wattage PSUs, but you are right, 520 is probably much more than enough.

These are cheap and have good airflow. Excellent quality for the price too; good steel that doesn't shear and hardly any plastic. Try to pick one up that doesn't come with the power supply. I own two and always recommend them to my friends. Hopefully there is good availability in AU.

Noctua NH-U12P SE2 should do the job.

id suggest a Coolermaster Hyper 212 its fairly cheap and will cool his i7 rather well all things considered and will save him $30

also why not get the HAF 922 its smaller then the HAF932 with the same great airflow and the 922 is a good bit cheaper then the 932
