NVidia GeForce 7800 GT Garbled Video
I browsed the forums and saw others have had problems similar to my own. But I was not able to reach any conclusion and am therefore posting here now for the first time. So be gentle
![]() So then the alignment of the planets must have changed. I come back from vacation and turn on my Computer which was working just fine when I turned it off last. POST posts garbled Video. Press DEL to Enter BIOS. Also garbled Video cannot make out a thing. Boot the Computer, see Operating System Logo with Progress Bar at bottom. Of course, through garbled Video. Then Poof, screen goes blank and Monitor reports "No Signal To Display". My Power Supply is 600W. All Fans are working great. No Heat problems. I'm running everything in a CoolMax case. Don't play any 3D games or anything while this machine was built for playing games (I guess I just grew up). I have never abused the computer in any way. What are my options? Try a new video card? Is there any OTHER peripheral in the computer that can cause this? Or is it simply between my Video Card and my Power Supply (which I don't think is the problem). I don't want to even contemplate the "bake in the oven" trick. Just thought I would post here before shelling out for a new Video Card. Darn things are expensive. Muchos Gracias in advance. |

Hm seems your card is the problem, have you tested another one, or tested the card in another pc? that might help. Btw, welcome to tpu.

Sounds like a classic case of video card gone wrong. New video card is the way to go. For some reason video cards like to go bad when the computer is turned off, not in the middle of doing something graphically intensive. Go figure.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks for such a prompt response. This is awesome! Don't know why I did never discover this forum before. Now if I can I will try to contribute.
Thanks again. |

Definitely was the Video Card
Quote:
You were right of course. Something (???) went wrong with my video card. So I got a new video card and lo and behold, I have my computer back. But I have two questions. a) I am getting a coppery smell from the computer. I haven't closed it up yet. But the smell is definitely there. I'm not sure if I would call it burning smell, but it is ... wierd. I put a software monitor program on my computer and the temperature of CPU sticks around 35 degrees C and temperature of HD around 25 degrees C when idle. Maybe I'm thinking new components in a computer give off smell till they are "burned in" perhaps? I do not see any capacitors, etc, leaking for anywhere. I took a flashlight and went to work. But thought I would ask. b) Since I've nothing to lose, should I consider even trying to repair / clean the original video card? I'm feeling (over) confident after visiting the following URL. http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/3446...hics-card.html Cheers. |
