It feels like not much has changed at all, prices will stay the same because right now all the cards seem to slot into the right place compared to each other, and ati still technically has the top crown.

EDIT* I voted on the front page, now my vote disappeared and the poll seems to have a new option, but it won't let me vote again.

Tried, to vote, it sends me to the frontpage, and I still see iPad there D:

EDIT: Nevermind, fixed.

Voted first one, since new architecture needs time to mature, and the GTX480 isn't a bad card, so I foresee ATI having problems challanging Fermi 2 with their new architecture.

It is. It brings new things to the table over just a performance increase, IMHO. The chip design really isn't well suited for 40nm, though. It needs a die-shrink (Kind of like the 65nm -> 55nm shrink of the G200), but it seems that NV might be looking way into the future here, which is good.

There's no clear winner as of yet, because DX11 games are few and far-between, so the battle of who is better will go on for a while yet. I'd like a pair of GTX480s, no doubt here. I might actually make it happen, too.

You are going to bring down your local power station with that wish of yours. I can't see how anyone will crossfire a GTX480 unless Nvidia brings down the power consumption with further revisions.

I can't pick a winner. I really like the features and performance of Fermi, but the power consumption is a huge let down. I just can't decide what my next purchase will be.

I fold. Nvidia hardware is king for folding and the fermi architecture is an amazing folder.

I prepped for these card by picking up an hx1000. I plan on getting 1 470 now and a second when I get a 30' monitor to center the nvidia surround of my 20's. eventually an nf200 chip mobo to add a third as graphics intensify in a couple years.

Oh shoot W1z, I wuz gonna add a poll similar to this in my GTX 480 performance thread, but you beat me to it!

I voted "Power/Heat/Noise is important, no Fermi for me" and it seems that most other members feel the same way. Also, I'm quite happy with what I have, for now, given the amount of gaming I do at the moment, the resolution I play at and the demands my games place on my hardware.

FPS is my most important factor, however if it takes too much extra power/heat/noise to get a meagre amount of extra fps then it isn't worth the trade, so for me fermi has failed to deliver much like the HD2900XT failed against the 8800 series (too hot for a single GPU).

GTX 480 is like playing poker with open hand. The 58XX/59XX are out the price is known the performance is known. So the price that NV set for 480/470 is not derived from the cost of designing and manufacturing the card but from the performance/price comparation. And as I assumed NVIDIA did not attack ATI`s pricing and intentionally went for higher prices and lower price/performance ratio. So would not make ATI drop prices that they could easy do because of how cheaper is to manufacture 58xx gpu. GTX 480/470 fail for NV. Not because of the performance or the price but because of the cost of building that card. So when I say fail I mean for NVIDIA not for the consumer side of view.

Definately Nay... i bought a 5850, saved a lot of money, its cool quiet and not that much slower than the expensive, hot, power hungry & noisy fermi according to recent benchmarks.... even now I'd tell people they crazy to think of buying one!

Nay, being a guy that only reads the power consumption and the noise slides of the entire review I can safely say that if either of those don't drop soon, and by a HUGE margin then I wont even give it a seconds thought when I come to buying a new card at the end of the year.

More to buying tech then raw performance these days IMO.

Price is important to, I only ever buy my NV cards second hand XD

no way to justify it for less than 10 frames..usually less than 6...and seriously, wont all that heat have affects on other things? like if i oc'ed my cpu ..wouldnt the internal case temp rise quite a bit? just curious...i will stay with ati

Nope. I bought two 5850's for less money, give better performance almost 100% of time (going on reviews), less noise - far less noise, less heat, far less heat and lower power draw which means i'm not continually paying to run my white elephant.

Great ideas need to be implemented properly, the GTX480 is not that implementation- but it will come.

Sorry, for an ATI 5870 user, it will be extremely stupid even to consider that card. I'm going to wait another 2 generations for a new card. I know like a million ways to spend 500$ in a very good and positive way.

It's not a game-changer for those of us with a 5970.
Certainly no one with a 5870 or 5850 would be considering Fermi.

I'm also pretty sure that people looking to upgrade their graphics would choose a 5850 or 5870 rather than GTX 480 / 470 due to price, power consumption, heat and lack of overclocking potential.

Edit: I wish this poll showed voters' choice.
Am sooo curious to know who are the 3 people who're going to buy a 480!

I agree. Afterall, we have to submit their names to Nvidia for the "most loyal customer" award. Of course, they can be crunchers though.

1 billion more transistors and the advantage is 10-15% better than ati radeon 5870 :P
What the hell did they do?
With that would be an advantage of "at least" 25% for sure
knowing that 2.15 billion for ati and 3.2 billion for nvidia and still in some cases nvidia looses the grip
Price, heat, performance, engineering, design are all bad points for nvidia. Well ati had good luck this time
And what is even worse here is that even if i had the money i would buy 5850
