@editor: 11 watts in standby is huge! As far as I know in Europe only 1 watt max in standby is allowed from 2010 on.

That would be the biggest and maybe my only downside.

Or do you mean idle?

I d like to see following figures:
watts when turned off (with hard switch, not remote control)
standby (turned off by remote control)
idle (offering nas services)
load (maybe watching a movie)

The video formats the box supports are listed on the first page of the article.

However, I do echo your sentiments on the absent information about video quality subtitle playback, and MKV HD playback. Sure, the box is based upon a chip that's used in other NMT's but that does not mean that they all work exactly the same since it's not unusual to see variations due to the firmware and other features.

Also, what about firmware support for the device? Do they offer it or is this yet another "release and drop" product to rake in the money from those who do not know better?

Yeah, but I meant actually tested.
Alot of products have an impressive listing of formats supported, but in reality it doesnt work very well at all.
So thats what I was asking for.

To respond to your questions:

First off, QNAP is actively supporting the NMP-1000 as it is an inhouse product. Many other manufacturers like A.C. Ryan or Fanatec just buy the hardware and slap their name on it. Thus they do not have any control over the firmware and its development.

Secondly, I tried - due to the question above - an MKV 1080P file and it worked flawlessly. I tried this one: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...DPlus_5.1.html (added that aspect to the review).

Thus I can assure you guys, that this is not simply a release-and-drop product. In fact, QNAP will be showing off new NMPs in the near future
