AMD Introduces New Value-Mainstream Processors
AMD introduced as many as five new value-thru-mainstream processors in its Athlon II and Phenom II series. It starts with the energy-efficient Phenom II X4 910e quad-core, which runs at 2.60 GHz, with 65W TDP, and features 8 MB of total chip cache. It is priced at $169. Next up is the Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition dual-core which runs at 3.20 GHz, 7 MB total cache, 80W TDP, and unlocked bus multiplier. This one goes for $99.
Then there's the Athlon II X4 635 quad-core chip which runs at 2.90 GHz, with 2 MB of total cache, and 95W TDP, going for $119. Next, Athlon II X3 440 triple-core processor. This chip runs at 3.00 GHz, with 1.5 MB of total chip cache, and TDP of 95W. It is priced at $84. Lastly, there's the Athlon II X2 255 dual-core chip with clock speed of 3.10 GHz, 2 MB of cache, and 65W TDP. This one goes for $74. All chips come in the socket AM3 package, support DDR2 and DDR3 memory, and are backwards compatible with the AM2+ socket. All prices are in 1000-unit tray quantities. Source: TechConnect Magazine |

i believe many of these will require AM2+ motherboards, not any old AM2. not sure on that.

6 core? 4 is more than plenty now, all we need is better pricing and power consumption (which they are doing right now) until the games catch up.

According to Hardwareluxx the sources pointed out that, AMD may introduce Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition, when the clock is 3.6Ghz, has a 512 kB L2-Cache and 6 MB L3-Cache, basically the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, like the specifications, but when the pulse to upgrade 200Mhz. (this may finaly give us the 95w 955 also ALREADY) http://www.xfastest.com/viewthread.php?tid=35029 http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.php...ktfrequen.html http://www.hardwareluxx.de/images/st...roadmap_xs.jpg i want one too lol Last edited by Kitkat; Jan 25, 2010 at 04:47 PM. |

The introduction of the 555, is a good point for them to start to add value. I really would have like to have seen a sub 100 dollar Phenom 2 quad core. But I guess I'll wait till the 975 or w/e comes out and put it in my server/download box.

That 555@3.2 for 99$ looks pretty good.
I remember paying way too much for my FX-62 and this 555 would be faster.

X2 555 makes me wonder what i could have done with the extra $95 i would have saved over my 965 C3. oh wait, i'm happy
![]() but really, that 555 BE seriously looks like a winner for a purely gaming build.

Those 65W looks good for a 24/7 database server. Forgive me, I'm to lazy to search, what's the lowest wattage proc. from Intel you can buy now?

There's the 65W Q9XXXS and Q8XXXS series of Quad Cores and there's the LGA1156 Xeon L3426 which is a quad core w/HT running at 1.86Ghz with a TDP of 45W (Costs 300$ though). For dual cores, every 45nm Core 2 Duo variety is 65W. Single-Core Celerons go lower, as (obviously) do the Atoms.

Phenom 2 X4 975
The price of Phenom 2 X4 965 BE C3 is to be reduced when in Q1 2010 Phenom 2 X4 975 BE 3.6 Ghz L2 2MB, L3 6Mb 140 TDP AM3 CPU is launched. The Phenom 2 X4 965 BE C3 at 125 TDP has potential for overclocking until AMD reduces TDP to 125 on Phenom 2 X4 975 BE.
