Yes you can. You going to need crossover LAN cable that is going to connect two computers. Than you need to enable sharing on the wireless connection. Properties on the wireless connection than sharing than enable sharing for other users. Than make sure that the LAN connections on both PC and Laptop dont have any ip setting all should be set to auto. Than you connect the two PC and wait 2-3 mins for the PCs to negotiate IP setting and Internet to start working.
You could also use bridge between LAN and Wlan on the Laptop but on that case you will have to enter ip setting on both lans dependent of the Wan automated settings. The first example works just fine. If it don`t work for you then will discuss the second option .

Need this extra step on client pc
It works (on client pc)
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connections.
Click Internet Options.
In the Internet Properties dialog box, click the Connections tab.
Click the Setup button.

The New Connection Wizard starts.
On the Welcome to the New Connection Wizard page, click Next.
Click Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
Click Set up my connection manually, and then click Next.
Click Connect using a broadband connection that is always on, and then click Next.
On the Completing the New Connection Wizard page, click Finish.
Quit Control Panel.

while its possible, the solution everyone is offering with ICS (internet connection sharing) is flawed.

It screws up online gaming (no port forwards) and will require your laptop to be on 24/7 - and if you want the laptop to connect to networks elsewhere, you're going to have to undo the ICS, and re-do it when you get home.

buy a wireless receiver for your desktop. USB ones are dirt cheap, and it will be much easier to use.
