Enermax Modu82+ 625W and 285GTX SLI

I've done the rather silly move of trading my HD4870X2 for a GTX285 and some cash, and bought a second GTX285. The reason for this is the need for a CUDA/OpenCL-supporting multi-GPU setup because I need to code a GPGPU university project, but it was still silly money-wise (and feature wise, given the lack of DX11).

Anyway, I'll chew myself out over that later, but here's the one thing I haven't thought about:

On my main rig, the Hiper 880W PSU will power those two beasts without any hickups. Since my upgrade paths usually take the GPUs from my main rig and put them in the secondary rig once I buy a new GPU setup, this means both GTX285s will end up in my 2nd rig probably around the end of this year or something like that (xDevs SLI hack FTW).

Now, my Q9650 rig in the sig is running an Enermax Modu82+ 625W PSU. It has sufficient PCIe power connectors to make it happen, and according to this review it is unlikely that I'm gonna run out of wattage on the PSU, although it will sweat at load (Will three 25A 12V rails survive the load ?).

Opinions guys and gals ? Will it blend....erm...run ?

I dont like the idea of even a quality 600(625)w PSU running such hungry beasts as the 285's + a Q96....however, I see no reason why it shouldnt work even if it will be pushing that unit to its max under load.

I just dont like having a PSU run so close to its maximus output...maybe I'm paranoid lol

Well, I don't really like the idea either. But I am an idiot for not thinking of this sooner and another 200$ on a PSU is something I'd REALLY prefer to avoid if this setup isn't dangerous to run. This is all an academic question for now, since the SLI ain't moving from my i7 for a while yet, but I need to know what's what...

Dont worry about it until your sure you want to put them in rig 2 or sell them on.

Who knows what you could find for cheap in the coming months...maybe someone has a nice 1000w unit to sell and your Hiper could make a move as well.

Yeah, you're right. Thanks. I am always edgy after spending too much money on something. My g/f would kill me if she knew anything about computers that isn't summed up with: "Hey those tubes in your computer are pretty" (Referring to the Q9650's WC loop).

I'm just lucky enough to have a girlfriend who at least knows something (not that much) about computers lol

Enjoy the 285's on the hacked drivers.

Oh as far as my g/f is concerned she knows the most important thing about computers: I can fix them
