Once it goes live the game should automatically update with the new patch when you start it up via Steam or GFWL.

This update can be downloaded once you start Dirt 2. Game For Windows Live will auto start the update (with the intro in the background). Just like Company of Heroes, if you don't download the update you won't be able to play. Do to the nature of the install (just a bar indicator) I can't tell how large this update is.

Here is what I noticed so far:
Using Alt+Tab places Dirt 2 in a 640x480 window. To return back to the game use At+Enter or play at 640x480. I can now minimize fraps without it auto switching back to Dirt 2.

Noticed a frame rate improvement outside trailer when using tessellated crowds. Not much but it does help.

Overall I've noticed higher minimum frame rates. Running the benchmark varies what I saw in min. frame rate improvements:

DX11, 1920x1200, 4xAA, everything maxed using Battersea Route 1. GPU at stock in both benchmarks.
Before Patch
average min_fps="52.300465" av_fps="63.280354"
results samples="5289"

After Patch
average min_fps="65.650230" av_fps="74.471367"
results samples="6184"

Overall a very noticeable improvement. Minimum frame rates averaging over 60 FPS (so far) which will smooth out game play completely as it will not get any faster or smoother then that.

With the ability to use SMT those with hyperthreaded CPUs should notice a increase in frame rates.

That's odd, do you happen to install on top of previous drivers by any chance?
