Fallout: New Vegas Screens

Man I'm going to buy it as its Fallout but it just doesnt look as cool as Fallout 3 was. I mean if you have been to Nevada most of it looks like this without the nukes. Also WTF is up with the textures. I dont remember Fallout 3 having such low res. textures.

Quote:
First Fallout: New Vegas Screenshots Appear

It's not exactly clear exactly where this batch of Fallout: New Vegas screenshots came from--they surfaced via Duck and Cover, Joystiq and others over the weekend--but they're definitely legitimate, having already appeared in several print publications.

So, without further ado, I present to you geckos, heart-shaped glasses, and Mr. T-Rex

Helmed not by Fallout 3 developer Bethesda but rather Obsidian--founded by veterans of now-defunct Fallout and Fallout 2 maker Black Isle--Fallout: New Vegas will bring its post-apocalyptic action-RPG antics to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall.

Probably xbox 360 version screen shots because fallout 3 doesn't have textures that are THAT bad D:

Although maybe I just can't remember how fallout 3 looked before I modded the crap out of it

Yeah FO3 definitely looks better than that, modded or not. The final PC version better not look like that.

Love that mutant with the glasses. Great wig too.

Yay! That looks like the same engine used in Fallout 3/Oblivion. I was beginning to lose hope that they started completely from scratch or recycled the Fallout 2 engine. I'm interested in the title again.

Maybe with their third use of the engine they won't just flat out leave animations missing I rushed out and bought Oblivion, never really enjoyed it, was a great concept, but had no fun factor, did the same with Fallout 3, same result. I wish they would change the camera angle for dialogue, I love the idea of the game, and looking at pictures I always like how they look, but the game play seems bland.

I hope your wrong about that. Last game Obsidian made pissed me off no end and still does today and even more so when Bioware bring out DA which should of been NWN2 and not the peice of crap Obsidian came out with.

I do have some hope as Obsidian did not make the game ground up.

I found the angle fine*, just looking at the faces was horrific!

Had to download project beauty HD to make everyone look less grotesque!

* first person game, camera angle in dialogue was as if you were looking through your eyes still, made sense.

As stated, those are some ugly looking textures. Should be a great game though.

If there was any other type of body language I would agree. But staring at them dead on in the face to watch them blink felt awkward, would rather have a Bioware cinematic view, like Mass Effect, just much better. People do more than blink and move their lips when they talk, adds a lot to see body language.

I always turn caption text on and I read along with it. Even in Mass Effect 2, if I concentrate on their face, I can't stand it because the mouth motion isn't natural. It's a nice distraction to read along as well as provides the advantage of better understanding what is going on.

@Mailman: Could you put a spoiler around all the pictures? It's driving me mad bumping me down as I'm trying to type.

Yeah I completely understand what you mean about they way their mouths move, I didn't mention it because I figured everyone would think I was crazy. But mouth animations still have a long ways to go, with cinematic cameras though I watch body language, just makes a conversation feel so much more real, but when I'm playing Fallout, I'm staring nasty Moira right in the face and it just makes me angry, blink lips flap, blink, blink, fake looking smile, lips flapping, blink, blink.

I try to keep captions off though, I also like a dialogue wheel with basic responses, like "Yes", "No", "I'll think about it" Then when you pick one, it's not just "yes" it's your character talking with some personality, like "hell yes, thats my kinda fun" or something like that. When I read my entire response before I choose it, I get bored, would rather be surprised and actually want to listen to what they say rather than read what I say and what they say (what good is sound then?)

But it's not really nit picking, I mean can you really tell me you enjoy staring at this dead on in the face

Thats the one that really stands out, I can't stand looking at her, others are better, but when their face takes up most of your screen and their blinking and mouth movements are so fakey, theres nothing else to look at. Also no body movement, everyone talks with their arms and more than that, it's the missing link, I just don't get the feeling like these people really want anything accomplished, it doesn't feel immersive when they just look at me and keep blinking and doing horribly fake smiles.

Looks ok to me
she is talking to you and looking at you.anyway i think things like atmosphere and sounds are more important then movement characteristics

I more or less meant she is ugly and I don't want to stare at her in the face. Compare FO3 dialogue with this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zbk2xEERAsI

Not only hand gestures, but posture, and how they pace, thats what creates atmosphere and immersion.

Not sure if this hotlink will work but having the character models less deformed looking makes the animations more bearable check out these comparison shots from the mod I mentioned

They also changed the men, here's a screen shot of a bandit

There's a guy working on a animation mod to make everything more natural too.

I like this comparison shot too

Paladin Bael looks like Siegfried there XD

I think the screenshots are most probably from the Xbox version, or if it is indeed the PC version they just didn't try out the better visual options (saves them time in uploading them I guess, and for others in viewing it)

Meh, it's still Fallout 3, and that kinda makes this one a lost cause.
