80 degrees too high?
running i7860 @ 3.82ghz with a voltage of 1.312 showing in cpuid at idle goes up to around 1.34 under load but getting temps of 80c with one fan on a Megahelams. What would be the best thing to get these temps down? add second fan, reseat or even replace the current fan? current fan is http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=8022
planning on going WC in july/august after tax time |

1. Add a second fan
2. Lap the processor 3. Decrease voltage—you shouldn't need 1.34v to get to 3.8GHz? |

You should be able to run that processor sub-1.3v max for 3.8GHz.

i7s are very hot processors. 80c is a bit high, but not abnormal.

Only 4 degrees after all that? Hmm, perhaps the heatsink isn't seated properly?

yeah i think it may be the heatsinks around the cpu socket on the mobo interfering with it. Which means a new cooler may also be in order. But don;t want to have to spend the money at this point in time. Wife aggro.

remember that the fan itself does little to the temps. its the heat output, thermal paste, and heatsink that make the big difference. before people start screaming "WTF!" think about it: doesnt matter how big or how powerful your fan is, if the thermal paste or heatsink is limiting how much heat is in contact with the air blown by the fan.

The OC settings and temperatures of a a Phenom II 550BE have absolutely nothing to do with those of a Core i7 860.

my i7 860 is hitting around 88c at 4ghz with just 1.3625v going threw it. They are a very hot chip. If I where you, I'd see about a Gentle Typhoon. They are get low level db fans that push massive air for what their rated.

I would reccomend putting the side back on your case. I know at least in my case my temps get higher with the side off than on as the airflow of the case fans is ruined.

Yup ! Too much space mean lack of backpressure ...law of physics. Its klike putting a big ass muffler on a small Honda Civic. Not because you have wider hole that the airflow will be better. Only less resistance means less sucking.

that was such a long time ago... AMD have had the cooler/more efficient chips since the first athlon 64. Only with atom do intel beat AMD... and well, atom aint a performance chip.

one important thing too, is what program is he using to measure temps? anything other than realtemp, he might as well be guessing
