do you want the quad core? if so get a better one than the 99$ quads. Get a 955 or 965 C3 version if you can afford it. change that motherboard to a 785 or 790FX and the power supply isnt going to be enough for a higher overclocked system with that video card. i would go with a corsair 650 or 750 model

Here is a good deal that i have cooked up for a cheaper potential overclocker. my friend had a Phenom II 720 BE and his would hit 5.5ghz on x3 and with the fourth core unlocked it would hit 4.4ghz

Well, since you want to keep this within a budget, you have a good start.
The $100 quads are nice, well rounded chips, but lose a little momentum when it comes to gaming due to lack of L3 cache. It is still a very nice all around CPU for anything you may do with the PC. So on a budget, stick with it. Since this build is a brand new build, I would avoid AM2. Get an AM3 board and DDR3 RAM, because the next few sets of AMD CPU's will not have DDR2 controllers. The X6 cores for this year will most likely be the last to support DDR2, if they do. I would definitely beef up the mobo. That is one of the few parts you don't want to buy cheap. It has the most working parts and the highest risk of failure. For a budget build the mobo needs to be in the $80 to $110 range at the least. Try one of these for a budget build. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131398 Never skimp on the PSU. Get the best you can within your price range. Corsair is king of the mountain right now, but there are a lot of nice, well build PSU's to pick from. for a budget of $60 or less, the only PSU I would recommend is this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817702010 If you can afford to spend a little more, go for the Corsair mentioned above. If need want more options and info. Post your budget, what you want to do with the system (primary function), and minimum requirements (such as you will simply not settle for less than a quad or must be AMD based, etc.). Once we know more about what you are working with and toward, we can help better. |

For CPU i would suggest a 965BE C3 chip to do some overclocking with

I don't really thing dropping $200 or off $700 on just the CPU is a good idea since he said he is new to this. Hell, considering what he may just the computer for, he may not need to OC a AMD 965BE. 3.4 Ghz is a lot of power to start with.

true. then why not get the X3 720BE i mentioned above. those chip clock great and have a good chance of unlocking 4th core

well that video card you picked out is fine and should do just that. Im just debating on the CPU you should use to do your overclocking with. black edition chips are the ones that i would go for to overclock with. AM3 is what you should get now cause AM2+ is dying and AM3 will hold better future results. i say get the 965be cause of its longevity as a powerful quad at stock and how you can get good overclocking results out of it. even if he is a novice overclocker or a master overclocker, you have to start somewhere and that should be with a good CPU

Well, honestly the X3 720BE does better at games than the AMD X4 620 if gaming is the primary concern. It also has a long history of OCing like a monster. Still arguably the best budget CPU on the market.
Watching Movies is a complete no issue here. Unless you need Blu-ray playback. |

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16819103652R And he is right. Even if you drop $30+ on an aftermarket cooler (pretty much required anyway for overclocking), you will still come out ahead. Get a mobo with a AMD 710SB or 750SB and you may even get a quad out of the deal. And if you don't going to 3.5 Ghz at stock voltage with an average cooler is nearly guaranteed. |

That looks like a nice core setup to me. Should be a solid build all around with that as your start.
Other stuff I can't help but recommend. They are just options to look into for you. Case: Nzxt Beta EVO (well build, easy to work with, more space inside than you would expect, very well priced at $50) Memory: I trust a bunch of people, but I look for Corsair, G.Skills, and Kingston first, but honestly memory companies are about even for RAM between $80 to $110 and it is mainly brand preference. You may want to check into A.Data as their newest stuff like below are turning out to be really good stuff for the price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146059 PSU: Some stuff most people will not say cause sometimes the Corsair 650 is just a bit too pricey. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...rchResult=True All and all, I guess what me and Brandon are trying to say is, at $700, you have a lot of options. |
