Angry Evga P55 FTW and 5970 are incompatible!

I asked ATI if the 5970 was compatible with the Evga P55 FTW. They stated as follows:

"Dear Customer,
Your service request : SR #{ticketno:[8200292584]} has been reviewed and updated.
Response and Service Request History:
You're going to hate me, but I would have to say, Yes. You screwed up. lol.

I think the only Intel P55-based motherboard we certified was the one from ASUS. I am almost certain all EVGA P55 based motherboards are compatible with nVidia boards. You should definately confirm this with EVGA. I am almost certain too because EVGA is an exlusive partner with nVidia too. I don't think their business arrangement would allow them to be produce a motherboard compatible with ATI Crossfire technology.
In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.
Best regards,
AMD Global Customer Care"

So, I've screwed up and have to get a motherboard from somewhere that is compatible.
I guess ATI wouldn't lie, but I also asked Evga the following:
Is the P55 FTW CrossfireX compatible or not?

Thanks.
Answered By Stephan K (03/13/2010 10:32:12 PM):

The P55 FTW is CrossfireX compatable.

Thank you,
EVGA

So who can I believe?

Is there anyone out there that has a great performing FTW and 5970?

I thought it was SLI that had to be added/certified and that Crossfire was fine on all P55 setups? Either way I imagine a single 5970 would be fine.

Believe eVGA, they have no reason to lie, and they are also very good with customer service.

The eVGA boards are crossfire compatible, they just don't advertise it as such because they are nVidia board partners. Crossfire works on any P55 board with two more more PCI-E x16 slots.

You dont state what the issue is, does it just not turn on? not work properly?

I would have to say I see no reason why the card shouldnt at least turn on and produce an image in 2D.

For S&G's I searched this over at the EVGA forums and there is some mention of random lockups and freezing with the 5970 on P55 boards. Here is a link: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=59347&high=5970

If thats what you are experiencing maybe something in that thread can help.

The problem is poor game performance versus my Q9450 and 9800GTX system. The i7 860 with 5970 should perform much better, but it's not.

I would look into the link onedub posted, it seems to stem off into a thread at XS with a possible fix.

ROFL!!! this is funny! I'm running dual ATI HD4890's on my EvGA P55 FTW. So no offense they are feeding you bulls**t through a straw on this one. search forums almost ll EVGA P55 owners are running ATI cards There may be a compatability issue with 59XX cards just as there ws when the 4870X2 came out but its not incompatability thats for sure its a bios fault

The person who wrote that response sounds incredibly unprofessional. The phrase 'I think' should not be used at all from the company rep in this situation.

+1

I'd never have expected such a reply from an AMD rep.
