xfx 5870 xxx edition flash to asus 5870

is it possible as most of the 5870 or all of them are reference cards to just flash the bios to the asus one and use the software overclocking tool to change the voltage?? i have my first 5870 arriving tomorrow and wanted to do this if it was a sure thing. No risky business just a clean flash.

If it is easy and possible i'd like a link to some instructions of force flashing the cards. This is my first foray back into the amd side of things since the x850 xt platinum cards, i've been on the nvidia team too long an forgot how to flash lol .

Keep your bios and use MSI afterburner.

yes that's a good idea, but i was sure that the limit in ccc was 900/1300 and also sure that msi afterburner won't let you go higher. I want the asus bios because the ccc limits are 1200/1400 in ccc with that bios.. i've heard this everywhere, am i mistaken?

The limit in CCC may be different, but you can still overclock as high as you want with Afterburner. All you need to do is change a value from 1 to 0 in the .cfg file to "unlock unofficial overclocking"

oh well erocker you are awesome thanx man.. i will do that with the card and use msi afterburner tomorrow when i get it..

does flashing to the latest offered by xfx need to be done at least just for the sake of fixing a few bugs.. i would assume that it will come with the latest but who know right.

That really works ?

I was contemplating whether to flash my gigabyte 5870 but if this .cfg alteration works, it's a better alternative as I have no experience in flashing cards.

I believe that forcing afterburner to support the card disables the 2d/3d profiles so you have to create multiple profiles. I'd flash to the ASUS BIOS.

Do you have more than one card? And do you happen to run an nVidia card for physx/CUDA?

To make things easier for us, go here: http://forums.techpowerup.com/profile.php?do=specs

And fill out your system specs.
