nice, that thing is beastly looking... lets hope that it's ugly looks are complimented by some extreme performance. I kept telling myself to stick it out with nvidia, hold on to my 285 till they release these cards.. but i just don't feel like selling my central air heating unit in my house to buy one card that puts out twice as much heat and doesn't pack the same amount of power to make it worth it...
idk i was really hoping for some insane scores and an awsome card from the green team... but my 5870 seems to have been one of the best video card purchases i've ever made. We'll see though, perhaps nvidia won't let me down... |

Cool, you can remove the gpu heatsink while leaving the ram and vrm heatsink in place, a nice feature for watercoolers, as full cover blocks are rerely as good as a dedicated gpu waterblock, not to mention ridiculously pricey for high end cards

Wow. I thought the 1.80a fan was a joke or a prank before... that really is a 21w fan inside that thing.
Amazing. o.o |

1.8a fan, but tells nothing about how the real operating amperage is on Fermi. 1.8A is absolute max peak amperage, manufacturers recommendations for continuous use are well below 0.8A, just like with the current gen radeon fans.

I'll be honest, i think the card looks exceptionally cool (maybe bad use of term there). No really, tech sometimes looks better for being 'brutish' and this beast looks nasty and therefore 'pretty' to my eyes.
However, did you notice how many heat dissipating features it has from dimples and grooves and maximising surface area at every chance? Plus that fan, that they declare as 'insane'. This thing actually has grills and grooves just like a 'george foreman grill' - it's hot, hot, hot. With that in mind, no matter what the hype has said so far, from the physical evidence - powerful fan (notoriously noisy manufacturer - from article), direct contact heat pipes, advanced cooling (the heatpipe array) out the box compared to GT2xx series and all those heat dissipating features..... this card will run seriously hot at it's core and therefore will draw some serious power - despite being told it's 250w. It wouldnt need all this 'extra' cooling if it were 'moderately' power hungry. And dont argue with me because the physical evidence we can see with our own eyes from the disassembly points to 'over the top' heat management. But it's still pretty. |

Oh and I don't consider 250w to be moderately power hungry for a single-GPU card :S

From the looks of it, you may be able to pop that grill looking cover on top of the sink.. and maybe rig it with a fan of some sort
