There is yet another driver update from ATI. This one indicates support for OpenGL 4.0/3.3. However, this is a newer driver from Cat 10.3a dated 3-23-2010. Cat 10.3 is dated 3-13-2010.

I'm an OpenGL noob, so what does 4.0 have to offer? Does it make the games appear better? What is it's main purpose aposed to Directx 11

OpenGL 4.0 is basically the same thing as Direct3D 11 (included in DirectX 11). They are two separate types of libraries but they feature functions that yeld very similar if not the same results.

Does this increase performance in OGL 1,5 and 2,1 based apps, like google earth or sketchup?

Superior !! The last time OpenGL was superior was during the time of OpenGL 1.5 after that Direct X started started to pull ahead, I dunno about OpenGL 4 though!

Supposedly they are trying to fix the error.
