Which thermal paste?

I need some more thermal paste, what's the best right now?

I've been using Tuniq TX-2. Also, I will be buying from Newegg because I needed a DVD drive from them as well.

Gield's special sauce
Arctic Silver 5
OCZ Freeze

Looks like they are within a degree or two of each other so if one is super cheap thats what I'd get.

Anyone tried Prolimatech's stuff? Found a review that says it's top notch, but for $4.00 more for a 3.5g compound may not be worth the extra dough.

Also, the Gelid stuff I mentioned earlier is in reference to the Extreme stuff, not the standard crap.

For as long as I can recall people have sworn by AC5.
Go with the tried, true and time tested one is what I'd recommend.
I've bee using AC5 for years.
It does it's job, no question.
AC came out with some other stuff a while back that was supposed to do better after like a 3 week set in period.
I never saw it do better.
Went back to AC5.

There was an article that I had seen where they made a comparison of like 30-50 different pastes and it was basically a tie between Arctic Silver 5 and Shin-Itzu <- I think thats what is called

. I'd say go AS5 as it is proven and I, and many others, have always sworn by it.

But you have to remember, thermal paste around here is like arguing over a preference in beer. Some people like Spaten Lager and some people think it tastes like piss and will stick with their Bud Light.

@ D007 While it is tried and true, it is really old tech and it is conductive. While tried and true is good, 3-5 degrees is better, which most other pastes have over AS-5

Using the Prolimatech stuff as we speak. With the furnace I run, all pastes are about equal, but I will put the paste in the easily spreadable catagory with similar performance to the others you mentioned.

About 6 months ago, I bought the remainder of TIM from a reviewer who did a TIM "showdown". What did I find after testing 7 of the best TIM available? Most are within 2c of each other. So, think about what other factors are important. For me, it's how well it spreads. When all was said and done, I found MX-2 (over MX-3) and Noctua NTH1 were my favorites. These are the 2 that I keep on hand.

Also a good point paul.....MX-3 and the gelid pastes need spread with something other than a finger or a baggie, thats why Gelid sends the spatulas. If you dont mind tedious spreading methods, get whatever.

I've given most of the extra's away with processors I've sold. All I have left is the Noctua and MX-2. I won't give those away.

Just ordered a thing of TX-3. I have been using Thermalright "the chill factor". Have had very good results with it. It came free with something I ordered a few months ago. For free TIM it held its own compared to AS5 I usually use.

It seems to be just like MX-2 i am using it as we speak it gives about 1c lower then AS5

regarding paste, i only use MX-2. its much cheaper than mx-3, only a little worser and does great work in all conditions. im thru with conductive paste... silver paste killed a hd 4850 of me, due to only slight amounts on one of the cpus own ceramic caps. SIZZLE. then it was ready for RMA

i also used liquid metal, which till today holds the record for a 10c temp lowering for me... sadly, the procs surface gets stained, when using that, and even worser: it sticks.
in fact, the metal dries out after about 2-3 months, and then has the consistency of solder... doh!

i was only able to remove my x2 from the water block, with a cutters razor,and a hammer. due to that, the x2 was sent flying across the room, and fell on the floor. it luckily took no damage, because it hit with the HS side

since then, i only used mx2, and will never quit using it, until mx-3 has the a similar price tag

Velvet Wafer Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: North of Germany Posts: 3,845 (2.68/day) Thanks: 2,286 Thanked 1,025 Times in 838 Posts System Specs	regarding paste, i only use MX-2. its much cheaper than mx-3, only a little worser and does great work in all conditions. im thru with conductive paste... silver paste killed a hd 4850 of me, due to only slight amounts on one of the cpus own ceramic caps. SIZZLE. then it was ready for RMA i also used liquid metal, which till today holds the record for a 10c temp lowering for me... sadly, the procs surface gets stained, when using that, and even worser: it sticks. in fact, the metal dries out after about 2-3 months, and then has the consistency of solder... doh! i was only able to remove my x2 from the water block, with a cutters razor,and a hammer. due to that, the x2 was sent flying across the room, and fell on the floor. it luckily took no damage, because it hit with the HS side since then, i only used mx2, and will never quit using it, until mx-3 has the a similar price tag __________________ CPU-Z validation sig pics temporarily blocked
