NVIDIA GeForce 197.45 WHQL Drivers Released

NVIDIA rolled out version 197.45 of its GeForce driver suite. The WHQL-signed drivers are the latest to support GeForce 6-series to GeForce 300 series, excluding the DirectX 11 compliant GeForce 400 series. Other products supported include the ION platforms. For GTX 480 and GTX 470, NVIDIA recently released GeForce 197.41 WHQL. The drivers released today, version 197.45 WHQL, include changes such as PhysX system software updated to version 9.10.0129, on-chip HD audio driver to version 1.0.9.1, several game-specific performance increments, adds SLI profiles for new games, and enhances those for existing ones, and a number of bug-fixes detailed in the Release Notes document (for Windows XP and Windows 7/Vista). Details on game-specific performance increases follow:
  • Up to 13% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with a single GPU, up to 30% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with SLI technology
  • Up to 13% performance increase in H.A.W.X with single GPU, up to 15% performance increase in H.A.W.X with SLI technology
  • Up to 30% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with single GPU, up to 28% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with SLI technology
The new drivers add SLI and multi-GPU support for top new gaming titles including Assassin Creed II, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight, Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City, Mass Effect 2, Napoleon: Total War, and Zombie Driver, and enhances SLI support for Metro 2033, Supreme Commander 2, Unigine, and World of Warcraft.

is it me... or do the drivers repeat "enhancements"... seem like I see drivers released with the same "game improvements" 3 versions deep.

Hmm, seems like those game improvements list are generic for GeForce drivers in the 197 series. Maybe they'll keep adding to it.

Is it really necessary to always release these within hours of me installing the previous version on a system?

Existing Support in Release 197 Drivers

* Supports Next Generation ION.
* Supports GeForce GT 320 , GeForce GT 330 , and GeForce GT 340 .
* Upgrades PhysX System Software to version 9.10.0129.
* Upgrades HD Audio driver to version 1.0.9.1 (for supported GPUs).
* Increases performance in several PC games from v196.21 WHQL. The following are examples of measured improvements. Results will vary depending on your GPU and system configuration:

o Up to 13% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with a single GPU
o Up to 30% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with SLI technology
o Up to 13% performance increase in H.A.W.X with single GPU
o Up to 15% performance increase in H.A.W.X with SLI technology
o Up to 30% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with single GPU
o Up to 28% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with SLI technology

So ... the increase in performance is from the old drivers.

The new ones just fixed some bugs:

* Recommended for the best performance with the new GPU-accelerated features in Adobe CS5.
* Adds support for the new version of MotionDSP's video enhancement software, vReveal, which adds support for HD output. NVIDIA customers can download a free version of vReveal that supports up to SD output here.
* Fixes a video playback issue in Media Player Classic.

Interesting... Furthermore, where are we seeing this 30% increase? I'll bet they could eke 30% out of an old 6200 TC, just by bumping it from 3 to 4 FPS! How'd they make the magic happen? Turns out, the card duplicates three out of every four frames, rather than bothering to render a new one!

Me too. Less than 24 hours since I installed previous WHQL drivers.

EDIT: Ah ... I see now why these have been released so soon; they're adding a feature. This:

I think the general meaning is improvements for an entire driver generation like 17x.xx vs. 18x.xx, or 18x.xx vs. 19x.xx, although I can't be completely certain of that.

Anyways, anyone pick up any weird issues with these new ones? I'm still on the old 195's. I dislike upgrading drivers unless completely necessary since each time all my SLI profiles get reset which is sort of a problem when you have in excess of 200 games installed.

All these 190 series drivers sucks for my 9800gt, so i am continue using the 177.40 which seems to the best drivers ever. For my PNY GT240, the 191.07 works great. The whole 190 series isn't good from nvidia IMO. Lets hope the 200 series is much better. On another note, the 196.21 were great.
