Which cards price will drop faster?

Hi guys!
I was asking myself about gtx 260 vs 5770 and came upon a question which reviews tend not to reveal. Anyone which knows for sure the answer?
Fanboys not welcomed!!!

Do you want to know which card's price will drop faster in the near future due to new hardware being released, or which one will hold its value better in the long term?

I don' think NV will drop their prices anytime soon. Nor will ATI with the 5770, I think prices will remain stable for the next 1-2 months. As far as value over the long term...I think the 5770 will hold its value longer than the 260. The 260 is being sold new for right around $200, but gets romped on by the $150 5770. NV will not drop the price because consumers are still snatching them up at that price. But the resale value of the card is not good because people "in the know" will just buy a new 5770 as opposed to a used 260.

Yeah, that is true. But even after 1-2 months, i dont really think there will be any price drops, maybe rise for the 5770, as that happened to the 5750 which made me feel a bit amazed as usually the cards values tend to drop. I know that amd knows well what is happening in the market, but that move just made the 5750 get nearer with price to 5770. This would make the 5770 cost more, even though i have not seen any price rise yet for the 5770 one.

The nVidia one. I'll give you two reasons.

1: The GTX 260 has DX10 (Old tech compared to 5770 with DX11)
2: The GTX4xx series will put out a GTX450 or something that will replace the GTX 260.

Due to those two reasons prices will drop. Not drastically though. But will drop a little.

If you can get a straight trade, I would. If you're buying a new one to upgrade, probably not right now. But I would if I could sell the GTX260 for close to the amount you spend on the 5770.

I think the 5770 prices are coming down. It's not too hard to find them for $130 after rebates now and the XFX version is actually selling for MSRP on Amazon (instead of $15 over MSRP).

Once the GTX460 and other Fermi derivatives come out in June, I would expect AMD's lineup from Radeon 5830 and below to shift downward in price.

I think the HD5770 price will drop faster

in this case the prices will depend on the availability of the cores, GTX260 cores are already in low production from what I remember, and as time goes on they will continue to get produced less and less, where as 5770 cores are probably produced more regularly and at some point a new card will come out and the cores/cards will build up and the prices will drop.

the GTX260 is in a similar situation to the HD4870, the price was very low at one point but then they spike big time, and stayed up there until the cards were EOL.

Today there was 15% off an HIS 5770 in the cart with free shipping the price was 131.74 with an original price of 154.99

You said no fanboys and I'm not one, but if Nvidia is still getting around $200 for their 260's that has to say something about the effectiveness of their prior marketing campaigns.

Indeed, still, ATi need to change the ATi brand to AMD. The AMD marketing campaigns all involve an AMD logo. So making the gpu's easier to identify for the uninformed would be a good step forward. Still, no-one sensible is going to buy a $200 gtx260 over a $130 hd5770 unless they really really really love the physX (but even then, just buy a 9600GT too!).

indeed, but there is no media exposure for the ATi logo, everything is AMD. They could always make a red AMD logo for gpu's

AMD Radeon wouldn't sound right :/ And i'm sure EVERYONE who is a gamer knows that ATi is a part of AMD. Due to media exposure, they made their AMD site into ati.amd.com

True but in a google search for the letters ATI the sponsored link states AMD.com/ATIRadeonHD and the 1st hit under it shows www.amd.com/ with the title Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media ... and a description with ATI in it 3 times

So surely a person not in the know would have to be able to figure out there is a serious connection.

Also there are only 3 ATI logos when you open AMD.com staring you in the face.

I would prefer to keep ATI as is logo and all but it is what it is.

Oh and I would think a 5770 should hold it value longer it is a generation newer card but you never know what the market will do. If we did we would all be wealthy would we not?
