Hi guys, i recently acquired a 780G AMD Motherboard and a AMD Athlon ll X2 250 Processor. I have a NVIDIA XFX 9600GSO 1.5Gig DDR2 graphics card, but seeing as i have the AMD motherboard and processor, i thought i would like to get a ATI graphics card (you know, so i can have the set) and my mother needs a graphics card for her computer. I don't have alot of money to afford a HD5000 series graphics card but i saw a good price on an HD4670 1Gig DDR3 that i can afford... But now the question is if i buy that card, should i give it to my mom or should i keep it? Will it be equal to or better than the 9600GSO?
Please any help would be appreciated.

What brand/model is the 4670?

I'm pretty sure, depending on the brand/model of the 4670, it's quite a bit better. I'd give the 9600GSO to your mother and jump on the 4670 based on the specs.

Also, you might want to change the thread title to prevent flaming, etc. For example, "9600GSO or 4670?" would be a great title.

You should only consider nvidia on 470/480, otherwise ATI has better alternatives to every nvidia offer. Get a 5750 or 5770

The 9600GSO is actually better than the 4670.

D'oh! Missed that.

I still don't think it would be worth it though. Save up for a better card instead!

First, we need to figure out exactly what kind of 9600GSO you have. The DDR2 version isn't nearly as good as the GDDR3 version, using slow RAM on a already limitted memory bus kills the card. I think the HD4670 would be faster in the end, but probably not by much.

I wouldn't worry about getting the "matching set". Just stuck with the 9600GSO until you can afford something better, even if it is a used GTX200/HD4800 card.

Is it the 512MB or the 1GB model? If it's the one GB model I'd go for it.

If you lived near a best buy, go check in the clearance section for a PNY 9800GT Green Edition GDDR3 card, its only 65 bucks.

Well i need to buy something, because mom is getting on the nerves... So im gonna go for the HD4670 1GB...

Thanks for all the help guys :)

BTW, don't really need a better card, already playing everything on max, just wanted to get something that's ATI, affordable, and with performance equal to or slightly better than my current card.

Then I would say save the money. Seriously, it's just a waste. Buy beer or something instead.

yea the 4670 is faster than the ddr2 version but the performance benefit is not worth it, I would go for a 9800GT or 4850 instead, its just not worth it.

Hey dawg I don't know if you already ordered this card... but let me warn you that Sapphire's RMA is a real hassle to deal with. When I got a 3650 made by Sapphire the fan broke a week later and I already sent in my MIR... so I had to go to them for a replacement. They don't really have a US office so someone else handles their returns for them... and it costs $15 to send it back and to get a replacement with shipping on top of that I'm assuming.... it might still be the same so just keep that in mind. I've never bought anything Sapphire ever again.

Looking at memory amount, I'd say the OP's 9600GSO is a 192bit, 98-shader GPU.
Even if it's DDR2, it should still have almost the same bandwidth as the HD4670 (~28GBps).

That said, it's possible the 9600GSO DDR2 could still be equal or faster than the HD4670 in low-bandwidth situations (up to 1280*1024 resolutions).

I use the new hardware revision of that very card myself (Sapphire Radeon HD4670 1GB w/blue PCB).

Specs according to GPU-Z:

GPU: RV730
55nm chip on 145mm die.
514 million transistors
BIOS Version: VER011.021.000.005.029929
DevID: 1002-9490
ROPs:8
PCI-E x16@16
320 Unified Shaders
DX 10.1/SM 4.1 (the GSO only does DX10 and SM 3/4 on most of the cards I've checked)
Pixel Fillrate: 6.4 GPixels/s
Texture Fillrate: 25.6 GTexels/s
Memory Size: 1024 GB
Bus Width: 128-Bit (wish it was 256-bit or higher but no dice from this manufacturer)
Bandwidth: 28.8 GB/s (you weren't far off there)
Default Core Clock: 750Mhz
Default Memory Clock: 800Mhz

The rest is pretty much irrelevant and only applies to my system, since I use 10.4 drivers, modified BIOS, have OpenCL installed, etc.
