Anyone ever have a hdmi cable die??

today my rig was running fine suddenly no picture just black blinking. Frantically I changed out my gpu's and tore apart my loop to find both cards do the same thing!! eventually I as a last resort tried my old vga connector, and blam it worked. how common is this?? the cable is only 4-5months old.

Yep, I've had it happen. And with digital cables it is actually more common then analog cables such as VGA due to the way signal works. It either works, or it doesn't, no in between like an analog cable.

It happens all the time when you beat/mistreat your cables like most people do lol

Cant say its happened to me (I dont use HDMI) but I dont think its out of the realms of comprehension. As mentioned before, cables carrying a digital signal are definitly more prone to failing completely.

Could be the signal converter(input module) inside the screen that messed up.. i never had a HDMI cable goes bad.

just had it happen 2 minutes ago. but i have like 10 extra HDMI cables laying around so i could change it out quickly.

the one i just replaced was used heavily over the last 2 years and it was a cheap-o HDMI cable i found @ frys electronics. F that monster cable nonsense.

Nah, when digital cable go off, they die, they don't just get "sick".

The best way to eliminate the cable is to try it somewhere else. If the symptom follows the cable, the cable is to blame. I've had a DVI (virtually the same as HDMI) cable go bad and it was an expensive ($3.50/foot), high quality KVM cable at that. I don't remember what was wrong with it but I swapped it with another cable and confirmed it was the cable, not the display or the graphics card.
