Hello GANG
would be going from an i7 920 to an i7 930 be a good upgrade if the out of poccket cost would be close to nothing? other then time spent.

How much would it be? For under $15, maybe, but for anything more, I don't think it would be worth it. The extra 133mhz isn't much

I'm another with the a 'don't bother' comment. Unless you can get it for near-nothing then by all means go for it.

Now you're taking overclock into consideration. What would happen if the OP gets the chip and finds out it's a dud for overclock? I've been there(not with an i7 ...), I still say stick with it and not bother.

If you have a older 920 DO then it will clock much better than the 930.

Most 930's that i see dont clock near as well as the older 920's.

I agree with everyone else.

4.2 @ 1.3 is pretty good tbh

there's absolutely no difference between the i7 920 and 930 except 133mhz?

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That was fast. THX GUYS!
The deal is I live fairly close to a MICROCENTER [$199 i7 930] and could most likely get that for my i7 920 on ebay. the i7 920 is fairly new batch. so would most likely cost nothing but gas to go to MICROCENTER and time to swap cpu but if nothing to gain will just stay where i am at

Yeah, in that case, especially with your current OC, I'd just stay with what you have ATM

I think you have to take overclock into consideration - he has a great chip now and there are no guarantees when it comes to o/cing. Not many people on here would sell a 920 d0 that does 4.2 @ 1.3v and then buy a 930 to run at stock. I told him to stick with what he has and the up(side)grade bug.

I've never owned a 920 d0 but from what i read about 930's is they usually take less voltage than the 920's. I have mine @ 4.1 using 1.25v - i can get it booted into windows at 4.3 @ 1.33 but haven't tried stabilizing. In short, on after market air i think 1.3v is fine from what i read - here is an example that says 1.3v should be max on stock cooling

See my PM. Basically, if you have an early 920, it's most likely not worth it. If it's a recent batch, you are generally dealing with the same chip.
