Futuremark Announces 3DMark 11, The Industry's DirectX 11 Graphics Benchmark

Futuremark, the developer of the world's most popular benchmarking software, today announced 3DMark 11, the latest version of their industry standard benchmark for real-time 3D graphics. Designed to measure the performance of DirectX 11 gaming PCs, 3DMark 11 uses a native DirectX 11 engine created in-house. To accompany the announcement Futuremark has released a trailer and screenshots taken from a 3DMark 11 tech demo called "Deep Sea".

Deep Sea is a demonstration of DirectX 11 technologies created using an early development build of the 3DMark 11 engine. The Deep Sea trailer features submersibles exploring the sea floor. Volumetric lighting illuminates the seabed with tessellation used to add rich detail to the rock, coral and manmade structures. Post processing delivers depth of field and other lens effects. The music is an original composition.

"For over 10 years 3DMark has shown gamers what to expect from the next generation of real-time 3D graphics," said Jukka Mäkinen, Futuremark CEO, "So we are especially excited to announce 3DMark 11 and show the possibilities of DirectX 11 with the release of the Deep Sea trailer."

The trailer, a selection of screenshots and further information about 3DMark 11 can be found on a newly launched website. The 3DMark 11 Deep Sea tech demo will be shown publicly for the first time on the MSI booth at Computex in Taipei, from June 1 - 5. 3DMark 11 will be released in the third quarter of 2010. There will be a free edition available at launch. 3DMark 11 will join existing Futuremark benchmarks 3DMark Vantage for DirectX 10 and 3DMark06 for DirectX 9.

According to this article that may not be in the actual benchmark. Indicating that portion of the demo wouldn't provide any 3DMark score.

No, they ripped off 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Moby Dick and other sea stories. Besides, who says it's water? It could be one of many other clear liquids. Perhaps club soda?

Yes, in September edit: This is just "hey we made 3dmark11, be sure to check it out when it's done" Reason why they did it now might be because of the MSI leak. Might as well say it officially, if it's out.

No but SP is 3DMark01

1:18-1:23 spot on the trailer looks great, some serious tessellation going there, wonder how many cards they used to run the trailer..

bah, futuremark is the lamest company what there can be anyway. None of their benchmarks should ever be trusted as benchmark.

Although, it's nice to know they try and fail again

Totally agree. There was something about scores being high on some cards. Then they had to patch it right?

Anyway, they suck as a gaming company too ...

I hope for at least 30fps with max details on an ATI 5870 (1920x1200/4xAA) ...

That might be true, but let's not forget, even if their scores are CRAP, the benchmark engines were ALWAYS state of the art, and were using at max all the technology inside DirectX.
I don't think, except 3D Mark, there are other games or apps that can show the true potential of an DirectX version. Think about that.

Bolded the part that caught my eye. The creative cards might see a small surge in the bench obsessed crowd if that's true.

Question nş1: Will there be any vendor-exclusive features that increases the final score?

If so, FAIL!
No word on PhysX or CUDA so far, only Direct Compute, so this might actually turn out interesting.

If that demo isn't contributing to the score then it may be the only part with music.

All they need is a gushing oil well on the bottom and a BP logo on the subs instead of MSI.

i have and personally i definitely feel that crysis and stalker:cs/cop utilize dx10 better than vantage by far. If anything i've always felt vantage was a reworked 3dmark06 engine with dx10 implementation, not dx10 to the core.

Impossible. Futuremark makes such overly complex 3D that looks like sh!t. If this looks half way decent I bet it makes PCs grind to a halt.
