I think that will depend on the actual street price. afaik MSRP is $250-300. If it's closer or below $250 (many 470 and 480's are selling below MSRP) it's totallly worth it IMO. At $300 obviously not.
Performance wise it's pretty solid. Much better than previews that were showing below GTX275 performance. This results show an average performance close to HD5850, so like I said at prices closer to $250 than $300, it's going to be very well positioned. |

And how is that at all close to HD5850? its close to the 285, which gets beat by a STOCK 5850. |

Aah, you ran much more that just the FurMark and OC I linked here couple days back
![]() Doesn't seem that bad with those new drivers and seems it depends heavily on the game where the extra shaders help. I bet NVIDIA releases 256.xx WHQL and announces GTX 465 the same day, they seem to go well together. Does it come with the GTX 470 cooler?

Saying the 285 is extremely close to a 5850, is like saying a 5870 is extremely close to a 480...

10% is noticeably faster.
not to mention, thats at stock... since 5850's reference can hit 950-1000mhz core and start matching/beating a 5870. That's pretty much a 285 beatdown. fact of the matter is... their last gen card is coming close to their new gen card. Hell the 285 is even a bit close to the 470 and ive seen benches where an OC'd 285 beats a 470 soundly. thats cool and all since this is a new architecture, but unless the 465 overclocks like a monster (800 core) and sells for less than $250, like you said, the upgrade will not be worth it. |

One thing surprised me, Lowest FPS in Dirt2 DX9 increased with 20fps (55fps -> 75fps = 36%) with GPU OC...but then again, that was using very low resolution 1680x1050.
EDIT /// I think, cards like GTX465, GTX280, GTX275 and some super oc GTX260 models (Gigabyte's GTX260 runs @ 680/1512/2500, 230€) run about the same... I bet all cards are capable of running same DX10 games at equal settings @ 19x12 rez. Then why pay 50% more for GTX465... Last edited by Triton.se; May 29, 2010 at 03:26 PM. |

Would think so yes, as it's just a GTX 470 gone too often on plastic surgeon

Disappointing performance. Not sure if it changes anything, but GTX285 seems to be on 2nd gen PCIe.

10% is enough difference (not a big one) but 5% is much less of a difference and I said that since the 465 is faster than 285 it has to be close to 5850 and it is indeed, at least in OP's tests. So 5% difference between 285 and 5850 and the GTX465 sits in the middle. It IS close.(unless it is faster with the new drivers, which I can't be sure tbh, I'm only basing my argument in that the OP's 465 at stock is slightly faster on average than the 285 at stock). The 465 are already listed for $280, as is said in the front page, middle price, so it's not either a bad nor a good deal. It's just competitive at this point. 5% slower than 5850, 5% cheaper... To compare the performance of ASUS GTX 465 @ 700/925 and ASUS HD 5850 @ 800/1150, GTX465 and HD5850 run stable at that clock without having to increase voltage, driver ATI 10.5a hotfix. Some benchmark results are as follows :

I read somewhere that it'll sell for $279, since nvidia sees it sitting confortably between the 5830 and the 5850. So for those like me, hoping that competition would bring prices down, we're screwed.

The price/performance really hasn't moved a whole lot in the last year on the nvidia side. Quote:
![]() basically the best thing about this card is that it can unlock (if it really can)... then the price is justified. 470 is a much better buy IMO. Last edited by phanbuey; Jun 1, 2010 at 01:29 PM. |
