Acer comparison

Hi I'm not technical at all and you all are -
Can you tell me which would give the best graphics ( for movies and online gaming) a Blu Ray gaming laptop using NVIDIA GeForce with an 18 inch screen HD Cine Crystal LCD display or a 3D using ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics and a LED blacklit 3D screen which also plays 2D movies. These are Acer laptops. I'm confused after reading up on graphics etc. as there are so many.
The price for the 3D laptop is about £250 less than the Blu Ray but I don't want to miss out getting the best one

First of all, let me welcome you to TPU!
Put your self comfortable, pull up a chair, have a drink.

I don't know if you're aware, but when it comes to laptops, one can never expect a true gaming machine. Due to power requirements and thermal performance limitations, a laptop can never preform better than a desktop. They can, however, play some older games with good performance, but more recent ones will certainly have difficulty to run smoothly. Now that we cleared that, what are exactly the models you are having doubts about?

The blu-ray reader is good if you're interested in High Definition movies. Laptops with 18'' screens and blu-ray reader usually come with a Full HD capable screen, with the maximum resolution of 1920x1080. For a laptop graphics card to run games in such resolution it is important that it has an amount of memory equal or above 512MB, in order to preform decently.

The ATI graphics card you mentioned is a mid-range card. It will preform very well on movies, as the nVidia card, but in games, especially graphic demanding ones, I would have my doubts.

If you could link the laptop models and the graphics cards in question, that would allow us to help you further with your decision.

well since both are way better than anything intel (as far as graphics) you should be fine for movies either way. however, to find out more for gaming, i'd recommend looking at notebookcheck.com. just type in the video card/chip model in their search and you should quickly find a review with benchmarks for a few games. this will give you an idea of performance. when looking at the fps listed for the games, click the number and it'll show you the system config (cpu, etc).

what model geforce is in the other laptop?

Hi, thanks both of you for your help I decided to get the Blu Ray Acer Aspire 8735G from Laptops Direct I got it for £630.00 as a refurbished machine I thought that was a very good deal concidering I found prices ranged from £750 - £1,049 for the same machine. I read so many reviews on that Notebook site the 3D laptop had lots of probs and I found the Blu Ray too expensive for what you got until I found this one
Cheers all the best Maggie

If you don't get any problems, with the laptop being refurbished and all, it sounds like a very nice deal! Congratulations on the finding!
