Nice thread title...

Need a little more background here, so is this a new install of Windows 7 or an old one?

Because you have been running 7 for a while, I would suspect a corrupted recovery.dat file.

Are you doing F8 for advanced boot options, choosing repair your computer and then doing a startup repair?

This is an extremely common issue I have seen on computers at my university. In most cases, I never actually got any data off the drive, I just went back to a relatively new image on the drive. By that, I mean I went back to when Windows was JUST installed.

Just wondering?

Is the hard disk with the boot partition the first boot device in your bios?
Have you left a usb stick plugged in or cd\dvd in one of the drives?

Sometimes it is easier & faster to just format & reinstall then to just try to repair/fix a windows/software problem... but in your case i am not sure what would be best?

Can you backup everything on that drive & reinstall windows?
If so then that is what i would do & that is why i always run my pc with at least 2 HDD's got 3 at the moment i never keep the good stuff on my windows drive

ok here is your problem.

some how your boot manager has either become corrupt or moved edited/deleted, windows cant always fix this.

the easiest way to fix this?

download Fedora 13 (i use'd KDE version). install it to a tiny partition at the end of the drive, grub will be installed as your boot loader and all should be fixed with out the need to format or reinstall windows.

side note, with windows repair, did you run DISKPART and check your drive was marked as ACTIVE? it should have a * symbal. also did you run BOOTREC.exe? make sure u /Fixboot /FixMBR /Rebuildbcd (i think thats the commands.)

Or you could just install GRUB.

http://packages.debian.org/source/lenny/grub-installer

I am unsure however, if this would fix your problem.

good point however i have never had a flawless install of grub itself .

iv had this problem(the OP problem) many times, (well it sounds the same as he is describing it) it may be different but my system behaved exacly the same way as he described.

EDIT:
since it cant find your windows install its likely a partition error, double check your partitions with DISKPART. (grub would not have this problem)

If it's just the MBR that's messed up, put the Windows disc in, boot from it, choose "Repair your Computer", then choose "command prompt"

Since it's RAID, at the command prompt run: bootsect /nt60 ALL

Now go to the start menu and Type
"Create a system repair disc"
and make one it's easier than using the Win7 installation disc
