new build need advice

hey guys i'm planing on making a new pc now i'm a little conflicted on which processor i should get the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz or the Intel® Core™ i7 940 the amd is 295.99 and i can get the i7 for 149.99 also amd only supports dual channel ddr3 while i7 will support triple channel ddr3 what would be better performance wise for gaming/music editing thx for you help

Gaming and music editing? i7. Is that a typo on the price though? The 940 for 149.99 is a steal, I wouldn't even bother asking anyone else

What reviews/benchmarks have you read that puts the 1090T ahead of the 940? What I have read is pretty much the opposite which is one reason I did not move to the 1090T when I had the opportunity.

With the i7 being $100 cheaper I think it is the option unless you cannot get a good deal on the rest of the components. With a good OC the i7 will be a monster.

Get AMD and a 8 series board. Sandy Bridge will not work with the 1366 socket but Bulldozer should be backward compatible with an AM3 since it is suppose to be on AM3r2 (probably marketed as AM3+).

Just make sure you don't skimp on the board and you'll be sitting pretty good when Bulldozer arrives. Probably something like the Asus Crosshair IV.
