Core i7 950 to be Priced Under $300 This August

A recent report by HKEPC shows that Intel will be cutting the prices of certain key SKUs to make them and the price-point they're targeting, more competitive. For instance, until now available for over US $500, and replaced by the Core i7 960, the Core i7 950 (LGA1366, 3.06 GHz, quad-core) chip will be placed at the $294 price-point, displacing the Core i7 930 2.80 GHz chip.

With the value segment, the socket LGA1156 Core i3 500 series chips will have a new SKU, the Core i3 560. This dual-core chip is clocked at 3.33 GHz, and priced at $138. Intel has recently released its new $200 LGA1156 quad-core chip, the Core i5 760 2.80 GHz. The new pricing will be effective from August 29.

The i7 970 hexa-core will be released in Q3 according to different sources. The price is rumoured to be between 500-600$, which is still a lot, if you ask me.

Yeah its got the same specs as a 920 just with a higher stock clock speed.

A little birdie will be bringing me a 940, and it was under $200

Pointless for those of us with overclocked 920/930's. Still great to see the 950 come down to a much more reasonable price. Very nice.

Those new 1156 CPU's sound sweet to!

Some of us early adopters got chips that needed over 1.4V to get 4.4GHz+, hopefully with the price drop of these "mid" range 1366 chips we'll see less volts for heftier overclocks.

For that price, it'd be a tempting (although not too much) upgrade from my 920... I'll either get one for my extra motherboard or wait on one of those snazzy hexacore i7 models (non-extreme) that will eventually come out. I wonder if it'll be $200 at microcenter...

Aww great.
If that E6800 is going to drop it's price to that low, my E7400 is going to be impossible to sell now and totally not worth it.

Great news for everybody else, though.

Indeed. I have a 920 running at 3.667, so no need for one of these.

It is great news for those contemplating a move to Bloomfield. The 920/930's may drop to the low 100s, while quantities last.

Nice to see some price competition

Intel has done pretty well maintaining its technical and financial leadership so far. On the other hand, IMO, AMD's future is not that clear on those fronts.

Interesting but not acceptable. Intel needs (or at least I want them to) to release a 6 core cpu (w/ HT) for a reasonable price. Reasonable for me would be around $300.00 to $400.00. However this will (hopefully) lower the cost of the 920/930's in the retail and second hand markets.

My two cents~

You drive a hard bargain. I agree however and will be looking forward to the buying choices later this year. As for the economical hexcore for crunching? Quite sometime later I expect.
