What do you think about this Lenovo X201 Ultraportable Thinkpad ? I found it has got a lot of good reviews.

shoot for a core i series to work extremely well without throttling, it have to be utilized in a Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 1 chassis.

That would be my choice. If you aren't using it for gaming, you won't notice a performance difference between that laptop and a more expensive, heavier alternative, and it will give very good battery life and give you a fair bit of money left over.

This laptop is the greatest laptop i could find. It doesn't use the famous core i5, but this is a plus for real. It does not use as much energy as it should with that processor. It has Ati mobility 4250, even if its not a good card, it will open everything your school will need. 4GB ddr3 ram,
500GB 5400rpm, AMD Phenom™ II Quad Core Mobile Processor P920 and one interesting thing is the wireless b/g/n. It is 15.6"! So if you don't like it, i really think: Don't go to school!!!!
